Great price, I hope your installer guarantees for leakages unlike mine in Dallas Tx and neither ARE Truck cap manufacture OR THE DEALER WANT TO DO ANYTHING. So please take it to a car wash or hand spray the gaps btw the cap and truck for leaks. Search here for these matter since July 2024

Mine leaked pretty bad. The original installer used the incorrect seal. With the help of some friends we resealed mine and it does not leak now.

Going to look at these and the options at an A.R.E. dealer this week. We carry canoes on the roof so can't have one with a rise on it. Just need a little more space for gear on our upcoming two month camping trip.
Here is a question: Wondering where they got the cap brake light power from and if it's a simple connector to remove the cap later if I want.
It's been nice to read all the feedback. Thanks.

They tapped into the driver-side tail light for the brake light power. I haven't looked at exactly how they tapped it but the connector to the cap was just some non weather proof connectors. My buddy wired a deutsch connector that's weather proof. Super easy to disconnect.

I might be selling this cap. I kind of want a different one, Ranch makes a mid-rise cap that has a little more room and looks better than the ARE MX one.

Little update. Pulled the cap off on Saturday to help transport an engine I sold to a friend. The cap was stuck on there like glue! The correct double bubble seal really works well and I had no leaks with it.

I hope you have good installer, certainly not in DFW area. V series leaks, and they won’t fix it.

What size is this gap? Im most likely going to buy a V and do the installation myself, it seems this is the weak point and if this was sealed and "graded" so that water ran out the sides it would help a lot.

Went to the local installer yesterday to get a quote on the V with options. He said gap is not the problem. Problem is the design of the channel under the Mav's rear window that pools water and dumps it into the bed. Going to remove my cover and look to see if some kind of drain hole can be put it it so there's not a buildup of water there.
He also recommended the tilting front window in the cap that can be tilted down inside as otherwise there's no easy way to clean the back window after the cap's installed. It's also handy for carrying long objects as you can open the sliding window and have whatever stick out into the cap. I've actually done that with the sliding window three times since I've had it.

Pls search here that someone had a little success to install the cap with a double row seal strip.

cap gap.jpg
The gap varies from about 1 inch to 1.5 inches since the cap bumps out for the third brake light. I’ve seen foam seals that would work to seal the gap but never tried it.

With the correct seal and some strategic placing of butyl I had it where water would drain when I made a turn or when it filled up too much. The butyl really helps to seal up and small gaps.

There is someone on this forum that put a clear strip of vinyl or ppf from the cap to the roof of the Mav to try and seal up the gap. They said it worked well to keep water out but their truck was white so it probably hides the vinyl very well.

Here’s a better picture of the seal after we removed the cap. It definitely collects some junk in the gap but I’ve never actually cleaned it out lol.

Why I'm getting the front fold down window so I can hopefully get to it to clean it (and stick long stuff through the sliding window).
Anyone have the front window? How's it work?

I have the front fold down window. Works great. There’s two latches you unclip and the window folds into the cap.

Ordered the A.R.E. V cap yesterday to match my Alto Blue with the fold down front window, inside liner, 2 extra clips (six total) and Yakima rack tracks. Should be about 3-4 weeks.
After looking at the cap in the showroom and how my current cover fits I'm pretty confident I can get the V leak proof as I have years of dealing with RV roofs, vents and windows. Dicor self leveling lap sealant is your friend and they make it in black.
