Before I recently retired, I put 10,000 miles on my Mav driving daily. Now that I am retired, I drive less and therefore, I expected to start receiving battery saver notifications. I know a fix is coming and/or I need to replace the battery, but here is my question I could not find in the forum specifically to address this low battery and charging it while driving. When I do drive (at least every other day - 20 minutes trips generally 35-50mph) what driving mode is fastest to help charge the hybrid battery?? I am assuming Sport, but then starting thinking maybe it is better to use the battery while driving and therefore maybe slippery being the best mode.

Thoughts are appreciated and my apologies if this has been asked and answered.

Sleep mode is the 12 volt battery, not the hybrid battery.

I’ve wondered the exact same thing. My confusion stems from not knowing for sure what charges the 12V battery.

If only running the ICE provides charging then drive modes that require the ICE to run would seem to be the choice.

If just being ON charges the 12V from the hybrid battery, different story.

However you’ll give up gas mileage in the long run. So while I don’t like having to do it, a $29 NOCO charger/maintainer may ultimately be more cost effective.

There’s a recall coming too. No opinion on how effective that will be.

Change the State of Charge from 80% to 95% in the BCM using ForScan .... problem solved .....most dealerships aren't even aware of this .....I did a lot of research before replacing a potential 3rd battery

I have read that as well. I was hoping that the recall fix that is coming will raise the charging level from 80 to 95%. I have access to forscan but a little afraid to start messing with that just yet.

The program will ask if you want to save the current settings so you will always have backup

It's the latter. The DC-DC converter primarily charges when the vehicle is in Ready.

I've considered getting ForScan and getting a cheap windows laptop.
I don't know if I've got the intestinal fortitude to mess around with the settings without having somebody experienced to help.

That is my concern also. Let’s hope Ford fixes this issue by raising the capacity. Seems like the logical choice

I’ve read several MTC members who “experimented” with the 12v SOC parameter in forscan. Apparently their experience proved that changing the SOC parameter to 95% made an observable difference in reducing the deep sleep events for EB Mavs but, made no difference for the Hybrid Mav.

The 12 volt battery it's mainly charged by the HV battery. The HV battery will charge quickly in any mode, but will probably charge faster in Eco mode, due to increased regenerative braking. The truck is programmed to never charge the HV battery over a certain amount of charge. Either 70 or 80%..., I forget. Charging a lithium ion battery to 100% charge shortens the life of it. That includes the battery in your phone.

That’s the problem, people think “everybody has ForScan”! Well Santa, do your job! 🥱

Mode will not matter.
The high voltage battery recharges fully in about 2-4 minutes of engine on time, assuming you are not climbing a steep hill at the time.

The problem is not the HV lithium battery, it’s the 12 volt lead acid battery. There’s too much going on after truck is parked. It sounds like Hal is rummaging around in the garage. Regarding phone & laptop batteries leaving them plugged in after they reach 100% isn’t good for them, though I imagine the software doesn’t allow them to charge to actual 100%.
