I mentioned in BEKI's build thread, but thought I would share a few more details and photos here.

We wanted a way to conveniently haul our fat tire eBikes in the bed of the Maverick without having to buy a hitch mounted rack. With the two of them on a hitch mounted rack, I am always concerned about how much they block the tail and brake lights. So I designed and built a simple wooden rack that uses the wheel well pockets to locate it and hold it in place when not loaded with the bikes. Also., since the bikes were long enough that the tailgate needs to be down when they are loaded, I made the tail of the rack hinged so that when the bikes are not on the rack, I can still close and lock the tailgate. The whole rack is designed so it is no higher than the wheel wells even when folded so that much of the utility of the bed is maintained.

With the bikes loaded, I simply use ratchet straps to secure them to the tiedowns in the bed and that holds everything securely in place.

It has worked out great. I threw a couple of carry handles on to it to make removal and storage of the rack when not needed (Michigan winters). It is relatively lightweight and easy to move around.

Here are some pics....

How far/fast do you drive with the bed cover "open"? Against the rear window, any risk of a broken window?

Note in the bottom pic the prop rod for the cover is attached on drivers side. It is not Attached on passenger but most likely could also be attached on that side as well.

Yup, I just had not put both prop rods up for these photos.

I have driven at 70-75mph with the cover flipped all the way up and held in place with the prop rods with absolutely no issues and no fear of it breaking the rear window.

Hmmmm?
I have Leer quad fold cover so I might have to mount bikes a few inches back for front tire to clear. Also I'm almost 83 so would need to design a foldable ramp with a position for each bike which could be mounted in the hitch receiver?

My original DYI solution to haul my electric bikes I have since installed BillieBars and a Yakima Load Warrior Basket above the bed to haul these two foldable bikes so I can free up the covered and lockable bed space using my Retrax XR Pro Retractable Tonneau Cover

That is the first thing on the list in the spring when it warms up here in Michigan. The rack is in storage for now.
