I am upgrading my 22 XLT to a 26 Lariat. Currently, I have a Tuxedo Sentry CT tonneau. I love the look, relatively practicality and zero leaks-except at the tailgate. My previous truck had a 6' bed with a 2' toolbox. Going to 4.5' bed I picked a cover that could be easy to remove. In 3 years, it has not been off the truck.

Since the tailgate locks effectively locking the cover, I am looking for a retractable cover without locks. Both the X Xcover retractable and the Gator Recoil retractable tonneau covers meet this requirement.

I am looking for thoughts on these or any other retractable cover, from anyone who has lived with a retractable for any length time.

I installed the Retrax Pro XR a few weeks after I got my Maverick in January 2025 I love it I just ordered BillieBars and a Yakima Warrior Basket to mount above it to carry my eBikes above it while maintaining the lockable and dry space below

Researching hard covers, I couldn't make up my mind. So, as a stop gap, I bought the cheapest trifold on Amazon. Slight leak at the back window but it works so well I'm keeping it. Solid enough to use as a work table it's pretty handy.

I too bought a temporary Gator tri-fold tonneau off the internet ($300) and thought I'd have rain leaks so added some 3M adhesive rubber strips from Lowes around the underside-bottom of the tonneau cover and around the tailgate and approaching 4 yrs on a 2022 Hybrid still have not had any leaks....have done two 4,000 mile X-country out West trips thru some downpours and still no leaks....but do get a little dust from bottom of tailgate on dirt roads...so added self-adhesive Rubber Strips all the way around the tailgate. My $300 Gator Tonneau still looks like the day I bought it.
