Yugo’s wasn’t a flop. People brought them! A worker at work had twins starting, going to college, he brought 2…at $5,000 each.

The big flop was VW Golf cars. When mechanics called them “throw away” cars, people stop buying them.
I knew a guy that got a Yugo for $100, he was well aware he could no longer get parts.
It was a P.O.S. Not even close to being worth $5,000 new
I rode in it one time and one time only.
It was a death trap.

I am 100% NOT being political, but this could also be Ford padding their wallet a bit against future tariffs. If those ever come back for more than 12 hours.
Or the fact the have to cover the 5 billion dollar a year loss they have for the ev vehicles.

The point I hope to make is back in the day, people brought them. They were cheap. And not on par of a US built vehicle. Would’ve I buy one, heck no. Reminds me of the old Jeep station wagon my Dad had back in 50s. Always Rickety, cold or hot, just uncomfortable. For some they served their purpose. Cheaply.

I think Ford is trying to fix the problem with software but the issue is with hardware and would cost $$$ more to fix. IMO.
eh - seems to be software , maybe it's some combination "

The action involves 144,516 trucks. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that the problem software was used in production from Feb. 3, 2021, to Nov. 28, 2023. Trucks built since then have updated software.

Through its investigation, Ford identified several issues with the camera-related software. A software update, available at no charge at the local Ford or Lincoln dealership, will correct these various risk factors.

I've never noticed any vehicle get cheaper unless it was a flop like the Yugo
umm, I bet those early 70s Mavericks sitting in that cave in Missouri got cheaper...... oh wait, that's because the original car based Maverick was a sales flop.

Update.... I was wrong about it's sales... It did very well in the beginning.... a sales success.... It just got a bit long in the tooth and sales dropped off... but as was pointed out to me.... it did have very respectable sales overall over it's lifetime...

Hey, when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. It did enjoy global sales of over 2 million over an 8 year period. So, I obviously drew a very wrong conclusion and didn't factor in it's impressive early success.

It did well even up to 74 due to the gas crisis of 73 in the usa. Sales dropped off in 75,76, and 77 due to no real changes from the 74 model (5mph bumpers) year onward.. Those numbers weren't high enough to convince Ford to continue the nameplate and gave way to the Fairmont ( a very square boring design that didn't look Mustang-like the way the Maverick did....).

It took about 2 years to sell the remaining leftover inventory stored in that cave in Missouri, so I'm curious at what price they moved them... I might even be wrong about that too... :whew:

I'm not going to link the posting on FB, but there's a $445 increase of the MSRP effective yesterday. Orders entered by 2/9/2025 are not affected.

This is fantastic news!

Because I don’t look at Maverick pricing from the standpoint of an angry minimum wage worker trying to find a way to purchase a brand new 2025 car for 2022 prices, with all of the new 2025 cars being way out of my realistic budget.

I look at Maverick pricing from the standpoint of an investor that holds thousands of shares of Ford stock.

I want to see Ford be profitable. I want to see them sell millions of cars. I want to see the world economy keep growing. I want to see the US remain at full employment.

And if Ford is raising their prices, that means 1) the sales volumes are still growing, even at inflated early 2025 pricing levels. 2) Ford is predicting a strong economy and strong sales in 2025. And 3) Ford is listening to shareholder demands to return higher profits in 2025.

I wish I had your optimism. Mid-2019, F hit $10/share, which I was sure was the bottom. Covid hit, dropped into the $4's, they suspended the 6%+ dividend. Took me a couple of years to wait it out to get my original investment back.

Oh, good for you.... Personally, I'm tired of all of this 'Winning'....
