The tailgate of the XL locks with the key, but it does not have a power lock like the lariat does.

No, but you can buy 2 parts and add it. Easy job

Reading about the cable. Some say they used an A,B OR C version. Don't want to screw up and order the wrong item.

i believe the C is simply the newest version and the others are superseded by it. I'll know in a couple of days, because I've got one ordered.

Ok tried mine. Key goes in 1/4" no further, weird. Can't lock it or unlock it seems

Me too. I just tried it.

Fixed! Put a little light oil on your key and try to insert it. Mine finally went in after I opened the tailgate lever. Works fine now.

Was going to put in the tailgate lock, but decided against it. I have a locked tonneau cover, and I know a thief can break into it. With the tailgate lock, they would be able to push the lock and unlock button to get into the tailgate Immediately. Without the automatic lock, it might take them a few more minutes to break In. They might just get frustrated and run away.
