Will the COVP issue be real or another Y2K?

Anyone remember the doomsday prediction in 2000 that everything that ran by computers would go bad and everything would go crazy? Will the predicted COVP notice turn out to be real or just another nothing like Y2K? Will people really get screwed by Ford and have their orders tossed or will it all fade away with nothing happening?

What makes you think it isn't real? Didn't Ford do the same thing last year? People whose orders weren't COVP'd simply didn't get scheduled for production.

At least this time they'll tell the unfortunate customers whose orders weren't COVP'd that they're screwed and they can go buy a competitor's product instead of leaving them in eternal unscheduled limbo.

I just wanna point out that Y2K was very real and the only reason it wasn’t a disaster was the hard work of hundreds of thousands of software engineers working for months and years to ensure correct and stable code. The result of a uccess was unfortunately invisible.

Now just get hundreds of thousands of dealers to put in the same effort validating COVP and we’ll be alright!

I was literally about to post this same thing. Y2K was absolutely going to be a thing until people took it seriously and fixed it ahead of time.

So, I guess the answer to your question is yes, it will be exactly like Y2K: it will be a disaster unless the people responsible for doing the work do the work.
