Ceramic coating would prevent it from fading and turning pink, no?

I think it comes down to taking care of the paint. Polish, wax, ceramic, whatever, you gotta do the extra care to protect it. It’s maintenance! And you have to do it more often if left outside. Driving for 50 + years and haven’t had paint fade. Including red.

Was your 2001 clear coated paint? That is supposed to prevent UV fading of the paint. I had a 2011 Ranger that was clear coated red and when I traded for my 2024, the red was unchanged from new.
This is my experience with clearcoat on a black vehicle. The black under clearcoat looks new even after 21 years of mostly being in the sun. The weakness was the clearcoat eventually peeled on the hood. I suspect that their application of paint/clearcoat these days has much improved since 2002.

I have always liked Red cars, and Trucks, (HPR Maverick) Red Tbird, last truck 2005 Red Canyon, Red PT Cruiser red Jaguar, 2 red 1962 Galaxies, and 12 other red vehicles I remember. ALL WILL TURN PINK if you leave them in the sun long enough!
I had a 1988 Fire Engine Red Dodge.
Lived outdoors it's whole life. Never in a garage.

Was still fire engine red when I sold it in 2010. 22 years of sun. Rare car washes.
Zero wax.

Probably the dust protected it from UV.

But when I sold it 22 years later, new owner was like "This is a really nice truck! You took really good care of it!"

Ya. Ok. 👌🏻 250,000+ miles.

Pre air bags. Pre CD player. Pre cameras. Pre almost everything. Had seat belts tho.

The red paint was great.
Was NOT metal flake.

Back when I had my laser red mustang I was in my early 20s, washed waxed and detailed it every week. Still ended up laser pink.

You lost credibility when you admitted to the PT Cruiser (just kidding)

It was a GT turbo that I drove over 148K with very few problems, on the other hand, I had a 2002 red Thunderbird that I spent thousands on (Jaguar drive train) that I gave away (sold for 6.5K) just to get rid of it. worst Ford I ever owned.
