I don't know about other parts of the country but I remember what we called them in South Carolina.
Yea, different names in different places! Even within a state there can be such things. When I lived in Missouri, generally north of I-70 the state was pronounced "Missouree" while south of I-70 you mostly heard it pronounced "Missouruh" from those born and raised there. I grew up in Oregon and we pronounced it "Oreegun" (said quickly) while mostly those from out of state would pronounce it "Oreegone".

Not with black aluminum wheels 😉
Personally, I wish someone would make some Affordable red line tires in the correct sizes.

They were called red line tires. A set came on my red 1971 TR6 with wire wheels. I think they are still available from Coker Tire Co.
Totally different tires. My 68 Tempest H.O. had some red line Super Fat Kats, G-70 14 bias ply tires. My 64 Tri-Power GP had some bias ply red line Tiger Paws too. We used to call them, Wide Ovals.

i actually learned to drive in a '65 GTO just like this with a stick shift Hurst T bar shifter 3 on the floor, your photo brought back a flood of fond memories :)
for better or worse recent generations and most future drivers will never feel that thrill of hitting a shift point just right or winding the rpm's up and popping the clutch and spinning those tires B4 flying off the line like a bat out of hell !!
nostalgia aside i would never even consider a manual nowadays. i'm not sports car guy anymore and value comfort & convenience and practicality from my daily driver as i gracefully ease into my '70s LOL
i also remember blue stripe sidewalls as well. most of the white stripe sidewall tires tended to be more expensive so they were something of a status symbol back in the day. i am actually pretty pleased with my stock wheels & tires, no plans on changing them at this time.

My Tempest had a three speed with a factory Hurst shifter. I had a 70 Torino with a top loader 4 speed modified with Doug Nash gears. That car sounded so mean with that 4 speed. It had a lot of gear whine as you went through the gears. 😉
My Pontiac would have walked off from it. 😊
