I think if you had owned a car from 1970 you wouldn't ask this question. A 1970 engine would need a rebuild at about 100k, but it's likely the transmission and a ton of other parts would be repaired by then as well. You didn't take cross-country trips with cars after about 60k. It is night & day how much time cars were in the shop compared to today.
