Where Does Ford Measure Ground Clearance?

With scraping curbs every time I pull into a parking space I started to question the stated 8.6 inch ground clearance in my FX4 Lariat. I have done some actual measurements and found the exhaust system at 7 5/8 inches and rear control arms a bit higher at 7 3/4 inches. There are plastic pieces under the floor pans also less than 8 inches. I did also get the 4K Tow package and my Mav came with the 225/65 R17 tires. I was under the impression clearance was 8.6 inches. I would like to know where they measure so I can check.

One would think the side rails, but maybe it's the floor of the cabin I see trucks jacked up two feet, but the rear differential would only rise a little for larger wheels/tires. To me that's the lowest spot and should be used for all vehicles, but that's not how they do it

Does weight in the truck affect the clearance? Are you really fat?
