Agreed.
Where’s the carb?
While there's no carb (or choke), I think the ECM does change the mixture based partly on temperature, so the overall point of decreased mileage at lower temperatures seems valid. That's sure been my experience with FI engines.

Are you quoting displayed mpg rather than calculated? Remember that with larger tires, you are now traveling farther per tire revolution than before. The display doesn’t know that. This would account for at least 1 to 2 mph of your displayed loss.
Like your steelies. Proper look for a truck. 19” wheels are too susceptible to pothole tire damage.
I’d want 17” steeliest even on a Lariat.
still plenty of sidewall with the 19s to not worry about potholes

I replaced the OEM Continentals with Falken Wildpeak A/T Trails and didn't really notice any change in MPG on my Hybrid. But I kept the same tire size 225/65/R17, which should be a tad better in snow than wider but similar tires.

we haven't gotten enough snow here to notice a difference yet, so TBD on that for me
This area got 85", then warm temps & rain so now we have maybe 8" on the ground.
We are thinking of putting snows one steelies. But that depends on when Maverick gets here. If end of February, we will drive very carefully until snow is gone Then do snows next winter.

potholes aren't a significant concern in my area as they actually use vehicle taxes for maintaining roads, and they will pay out to repair/replace a wheel if damaged by a road defect that isn't marked with cones or signage.

but to your point, yes. here's the nominal specs on the factory tire & wheel combos. (actual dimensions can vary a little.)

225/65-17 - 28.5" diameter with 5.8" sidewall
235/65-17 (tremor) - 29.0" diameter, 6.0" sidewall
225/60-18 (22-24 lariat, bap) - 28.6" diameter, 5.3" sidewall
225/55-19 (25 lariat, bap, lobo) - 28.7" diameter, 4.9" sidewall

it's not like this is a 40 series tire. also, I'm pretty sure 245/50-19 will be the most popular replacement non-stock tire size for the 19s. it is 28.6" diameter with a 4.8" sidewall.

I really want to replace my 19s with 17s but I’ll only do that if I’m going to put a Flat Out Suspension kit on it.

Looking at airbags to increase payload and tongue weight though.

my MavBrid will likely be mostly a pavement/gravel road princess

My dislike of 19 inch wheels is a result of experience with 255/35/19s on my Audi. (have killed 3 over the past 60,000 miles)
Obviously, 225/55/19s on the Lariat have more sidewall height than those but still I would prefer the additional 1” of sidewall that the 17s provide. It’s a truck and I might need to climb over a curb sometimes. 😉 The XLT can be specd with 17s or 19s. IMHO the Lariat should offer the same choice.

the only possible value on a Maverick for the 19s is appearance, which is subjective. if you pick a popular tire that's available in all 3 OEM sizes I'm pretty confident the 19 will always cost more.

michelin defender 2 for example. $205 for either 225/65-17 or 225/60-18, but $255 for 225/55-19.

We got close to 85" in 2 days a few days ago, maybe a week now. Then it rained and melted 60% of it. Today it snowed & it is a wet snow, slipper to drive on without snows on. 40 degrees after Christmas. Another different winter. Hope snow is gone by the time the Maverick gets here. Get snows for next winter.

Stock 17”Pirelli ATR’s are 25 lbs.
Your 245 wildpeak AT trails are 37 lbs.
I run 255 wildpeak AT4W’s that weigh 43 lbs.
and I get considerably less than the 27 mpg that you see.

I used up my stocks for 20k miles of mostly highway. I still have them, they're just stored for now. was getting between 28-32mpg average depending on my personal driving habits.

recently upgraded to 245/65r17 falken wildpeak ATs, and shew, im MAYBE getting 27mpg on the highway. I can baby it to 30 at 55-60 but anything over that and it falls off.
Well did you calculate the 3,5% increase in diameter of your tires.. Todays 27mpg if not adjusted is really 27x1.035= 27.98mpg or 28mpg which is what you initally claimed with the factory tires..

It my calculations are correct, you have virtually no loss of fuel mileage as you think..

this, and winter oxygenated fuel gets 2-3 mpg less by itself.
