I was making a 3 point turn at a dead end and quickly turned the wheel to the left and heard a weird rubbing noise. It’s very faint and can only be heard when turning the wheel all the way to the left quickly (it doesn’t make the noise when going to the right).

Any idea what it could be or if this is normal?

Can anyone quickly turn your wheel left or right do you hear the slight rubbing noise?

My 2023 XLT does this. From what I can see, the rear bezel on the steering wheel is rubbing on the steering column shroud ever so slightly; just enough to make noise.

It hasn't bothered me enough to pull the wheel off and inspect as it's barely noticable while stopped.

Does it only make the noise when turning the steering wheel fast? Or does it happen when you always turn the wheel?

It can be heard at the half second mark when the video starts and at the 3.5 second mark.

It’s like a quick bearing/rubbing noise right when I start to turn the wheel to the left quickly…part of me thinks it’s the power steering motor or something.

Again I can’t hear this when I turn normally…but if you whip your wheel to the left quickly, it can be heard. Just wanted to see if you also heard it on yours and if it was normal.

If you could ever check yours and potentially post a vid that would be greatly appreciated.

Same noise here. 2023 Lariat. I also want to know what it is.

Turning your steering wheel while the vehicle is stationary is terrible for your steering components. It places so much more stress and strain on everything in general. If you had a vehicle with manual steering you would better understand that your EPS has to work about a hundred times harder to actually turn the wheels while the vehicle is stationary and all of that force is being directed at your tie rods, rack bushings, etc. People wonder why they go through steering/suspension components more often than others and usually it's because they set their steering inputs while their vehicle is stopped, ie, turn their wheels before the vehicle starts moving rather than while the vehicle is moving.

I understand dry steering I bad…I only did it once for the video. I originally noticed it while doing a three point turn where the vehicle was slightly moving and I was turning the steering wheel quickly.

2023 Lariat Hybrid - Is yours a Hybrid as well?

You explained it perfectly in the other thread…it’s a rubbing/swoosh sound.

Can you post a video of yours if you get the chance? I may check another one at the dealer lot to see if it’s “normal” or not.

Mine is a 2023 Lariat Ecoboost AWD. I may post a video when I get a chance. I'm traveling for the holidays so it may take a while. Nonetheless, it sounds exactly like yours. It's not a grinding, clicking, or rattling noise. I noticed it the day after I brought it home. It should be completely silent when you turn, in my opinion. My Jeep Wrangler and wife's Honda Accord don't have this noise.

Please post what the dealer says or if you drive another one on the lot. It does not bother me alot but still want to know so I can try and have it fixed. I don't t like taking my trucks/cars to the dealership. I can hear their response now, " its normal, give it some time" etc, etc.
