Is it just me or do other Mav owners fine the volume control display a bit annoying and unnecessary

It is, and it would be better if it was just a bar graph on the main screen rather than an overlay. However, it is nice that it goes away if you tap on it.

I like something to display a relative volume just for a reference, but I don't like the overlay that Ford implemented. You either have to tap it away or wait for it to disappear to continue using the UI.

I usually drive with the screen turned off.
