Valvoline Hybrid Transmission Fluid?

Has anyone used Valvoline Full Synthetic Hybrid Transmission Fluid when doing a drain & fill? It claims to work for 95% of the hybrid vehicles. I can't seem to find the specs vs. Mercon ULV.

Valvoline Full Synthetic Hybrid Transmission Fluid is not a ULV fluid, and Ford calls for ULV in both trans offered in the Mav.

Valvoline does make a ULV, which may be an option if it meets the specs.

I went to my ford dealer today to buy some Mercon ULV transmission fluid for my hybrid truck.

They said there is a national back-order and could not sell me any. I asked what they do when someone comes in for a transmission fluid change. They told me they are using an after market ULV fluid. I didn’t ask which brand since I was a bit off guard by the whole situation.

It does appear the the valvoline ULV fluid is readily available at auto parts stores and is a comparable ULV fluid for my truck.

I have no idea on the Valvoline or any of the others, I would only say make double dang sure its meets the ford specs provided in the owners manual for your truck. Pretty sure the spec is (WSS-M2C949-A). Motorcraft MERCON® ULV is part # XT12QULV

Check you local auto parts stores. It's in stock at my local O'Reilly's Auto Parts and NAPA.

Do not take this as advice to act upon, but I bet the Valvoline Hybrid ATF fluid would be fine and I would consider it when out of warranty. The only reason I say that, is the viscosity is the same as the Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF that Valvoline claims compatibility usage in Mercon ULV applications even though it is a higher viscosity than ULV fluid.

Given these transmissions are a planetary gear setup and not traditional valve body clutched transmission, I am not convinced the lower viscosity ULV ATF is imperative to operation of the transmission and a higher viscosity hybrid ATF would work fine as it would have the properties for the electrical motors and windings.

I need to find my flame suit now.

I have 20k on my truck and I decided to not change the tranny oil today. I’m doing an oil change but I’ll wait until the next time around to change it. I’ll pick up some Mercon ULV in the meantime when it becomes available.
