Using old plates

I sold a Duramax lately and kept the old plates. I had heard someone mention that they had used a set of plates for 4 different vehicles, buy keeping them and transferring them to a new vehicle. If in fact that is true, what can I expect to save when I go the the finance department the day i pick up my Mav?

My dealer transfered my plate for me for a $249 transfer fee. Would've been way more if I didn't have a plate. But with out knowing more info all I can tell you Is money. It will save you money

Each state is different. Here in WY, if I trade a vehicle and move the plates, they calculate unexpired time from the old vehicle and apply it to reduce the new registration. If I don't move the plate to the new vehicle, I get ZERO.

Live in Kansas and just sold my 2020 Ford Fusion and got a 2023 Maverick XLT. I took the Veteran Plate off my Fusion and transferred them to my Maverick for $0. Just paid the taxes due on new truck and that was with the DMV Office. Best of Luck

It's 10 bucks to transfer a plate in Michigan.

In MA it is $25.00 to transfer the plate to a new vehicle. If bought private or dealer with no trade, pay sales tax on full price, if bought from dealer and traded, sales tax on net price.

Same here in NY - I’ve had the same vanity plates on 4 different vehicles since 2009

1/2 year registration and title for $25 on mine here in Ohio. Plates transferred with registration.
