Don't look behind the curtain. From what I recall, it is a USB-C to USB-A adapter inside that housing (on the Maverick).

No, my phone fast-charges over it, it's actually delivering USB-C power levels, which are out of spec for USB-A.

Can that USB plate be reversed 180 so the USB-C is on the bottom and the USB-A is on the top? I bought a right angle USB-C cord and it goes to the left and hits my leg. I wanted it to go to the right.
I hate to buy another USB-A cord that would go to the right.

USB C can be plugged in in either orientation and carries more signals. It's also faster. Huge improvement. All of my newer equipment is USB C, even the thumb drive with my music on it.

Granted, the USB-C connector is not as durable as some others, but it is a highly versatile port that offers much more functionality than your standard USB port such as data transfer, power delivery, ethernet, video output, audio output, and more.
