Fellow Mav modders,

Just a quick note to let you know I am putting together a parts/vendor list that adds the USB module and wiring kit to AkroHD's display cubby mount with the USB module insert...since the kit from Akro HD is no longer available, I am working on sourcing and putting together the required parts in a list for you DIY types (If you're short on time and would rather just buy the module with the wiring already assembled, I may be persuaded to offer that service at a fair price). Note: You'll still need to get the cubby and USB module 'trim' pieces from AkroHD. I'm not doing this to take business away from them...they make a fine product, but I've seen the level of interest in adding the USB module to the cubby and want to help others get theirs added too.

Once the parts arrive and I can guarantee that it works on my trucklet I will post the parts list (and the vendors I got them from) here. It may be a week before that happens, so stay tuned!

Great timing! I've tried to contact Akro this week but haven't heard back yet. I currently have the Akro cubby insert in my Etsy shopping cart. I was sold after viewing the YouTube install video Matt from Akro posted. I guess Akro stopped selling the kit? I If you do this, I'm in.

He apparently takes February off. It's been a challenge to find the wiring connector that goes into the back of the USB module but after reading specification and application sheets I sussed out the supplier and there's no issues with quantities. Just waiting for them to arrive so I can make sure it works before putting out the specs.

Stay tuned! I expect to have it ready by the end of next week if not sooner. Did your cubby come with the two plasric inserts that the module snaps into? They're not critical but they save you from having to cut a hole in the front of the cubby to insert the USB module.

But this is the kit Akro used to sell, that I believe you are working to duplicate, correct?

Do you have pictures of it done?

Correct. You'll use one of the two frames included in the photo.
I have the dual matching USB ports but the module with the original 'mismatched' ports is available.

@Deweyordeweynot The reason I'd prefer the mismatched USB-A and USB-C ports is because I have a bunch of legacy devices that use the older USB-A. I know the older port will come in handy instead of needing adapters. Good luck as you get the parts and do the install to confirm all works.

Here's a conversation I had with Matthew at Akro recently.

The fuse taps, connector and pins for it arrived late yesterday and I hope to get the wire today. I'm thinking of wiring it with one port switched to turn on and off with the ignition and the other port always on, which is why I have two fuse taps. [see following post ]
Fingers crossed...

As is I believe all three of the Molex dual USB modules have a single input circuit for the whole thing so without modding the module I don’t see how.

USB A/C module schematic: https://www.molex.com/content/dam/m...sdrawingpdf/795/79540/795405067_sd.pdf?inline

The product pages for the modules have these drawings for each. They also helpfully tell you which terminal and terminal holders are compatible with each module.

Similar to the drawing I've seen...but looking again at the pinouts for the connector, I see I mistakenly thought that pins 1 and 4 were both power, and NO THEY'RE NOT. 🧯

I appreciate your input and if I had borked the module, at least we know who's to blame, eh? o_O
