I’ve installed my Bakflip G2 for a couple weeks now. And in Southern California, we’ve had a lot of rain the last couple weeks as well. Here is my experience using it.

I understand that no tonneau cover is 100% waterproof, but I wasn’t expecting puddles in my bed with the cover on. I’m going to be installing a bedrug and don’t want it to be constantly wet when it rains or when I wash the car.

So I reached out the the owner of the local Line-X shop that sprayed my bed (they also do covers, mats, etc) and asked if he could double check my install and maybe give me some ideas for more water proofing Ideas. First thing he did was toss out the thin weatherstripping that came from Bakflip and replaced it with something more dense and wider. He then put some plastic caps on the tailgate end of my side rails - not sure if I just didn’t receive them or if they were *missing*. And lastly he put some bigger weather stripping around the latches on the tailgate. Again, not going to be 100% waterproof, but it’s going to make a big difference! Huge shoutout to Ben from Simi Valley Line-X!

Now I know it probably won’t rain for another year, but it’s good piece of mind. I did buy the G2 primarily as a way to secure the bed of my truck. The weather here is usually sunny and nothing I need to worry a lot about.

This was just my experience and wanted to share.

I believe better water resistance was one of the selling points for the MX4 over the G2. Did you also get some weather stripping put in those little gaps in the plastic along the side of the bed? If not water comes in there too.

I watched a different YouTube about using Glass Butyl Seal Tape to roll into those little gaps on the sides of the bed - worked really well! Thanks for the heads up!

I've been trying to think of ideas of how to seal my Bakflip by the cab. The area where the painted part meets the plastic is my culprit. I might have to look into the Butyl Seal Tape. My current idea I was floating around was a plastic U-channel between the cab and the seal on the cover.
