I was curious about this so I just spent a few minutes siting in the garage testing it. Here's what I found out.

I was only able to test the USB A ports because I do not have a USB C to C cable. I tested with the vehicle on and the engine running. I did not try any other key settings and I tested using the drivers side doors only.

For the front drivers seat the USB A port will charge when the vehicle is turned on and the engine is running. If you turn the vehicle off the phone will continue to charge until you open door. Once I opened the door the vehicle stopped charging my phone.

For the rear drivers seat I was able to test the USB A port and the house hold style plug. The USB A port will charge my phone whether the vehicle is on or not. It made no difference. Even if I opened the drivers side rear door the phone continued to charge.

The house hold style plug works similar to the front USB A port. No power unless the vehicle was on with the engine running. Once I turned the vehicle off it stopped charging my phone even if I left the door closed.

So long winded and probably more than you wanted to know but now you do. Hope this helps!

Just last evening put a USB A to USB C adapter on the teeny tiny USB A/micro USB dongle had hanging about and which am using to store music for Mavericking. Solely to use the higher positioning of the USB C to make the whole thing less visible to the casual eye. Works like a champ.

Thanks for the info. Now I won’t need to test myself! (but probably will anyway as I like messin’ around with stuff)
