I am not an audio geek but I wanted to try and play music via my phone through Android Auto since the USB format for a large number of songs is a pain ( I have since learned that turning off the radio before shutting down the truck stops my Sync from trying to relearn and resynch all my USB files on every startup).

Anyway I went ahead and tried Amazon and You Tube Music but too much crap and I don't want any costs involved with them using data bandwidth while driving. I really only wanted to play my own files anyway and You Tube Music was not nice....too much streaming, it chews up data and it breaks up my uploads into numerous files.
.
I like poweramp and got it to work pretty well and now it even allows me to ask to play songs, artists and albums without having to hit the truck speech button...just by saying HEY Google play xx by Poweramp. I assume it is the phone that is interpreting my voice commands and passing them on to Android Auto.

Here is the one thing that annoys me.....google restates what I tell it everytime...telling me it "ok, attempting to play xx via poweramp" or whatever. HOW CAN I STOP GOOGLE from replying and basically repeating my every command to play music. Otherise it works great.... and the Poweramp display on the truck screen is also good.

Thanks

I don't use Poweramp. Does it show up in the list of apps in Android Auto? If it doesn't I think you're stuck with the functionality you have.

If it does, there should be some kind of on screen app menus you can pick, there is with Spotify, YT Music, Amazon Music.... BUT as you probably noticed using those other music sources, if you ask the Google Assistant to play something, it's going to repeat you and then do it. To my knowledge that can't be configured otherwise.

I don't use Google Assistant. But turning off Speech Output or Spoken Results might help - not sure. Worth a try. I keep it turned off in regular Google.

The only time I connect the phone with a cable to the truck and use AA is when I need navigation - which is rarely.

I normally just play music in the truck using bluetooth and Pulsar music player app. I keep the music app on shuffle for my entire music directory or just a subdirectory, depending on the mood. With bluetooth, the Pixel's auto-play begins about 10 - 12 seconds after I turn on the truck.

Pulsar works well with AndroidAuto and has an on-screen folder browse feature. The standard app is free and ad-free. Paid version gives you 16 more features, like more advanced equalizer, bass boost, etc.

Coincidentally, I also have a Pixel phone, use the paid Pulsar+ music app. and use Android Auto.

I also am a fan. (y)

From what I have read in forums Google Assistant does not provide an option to turn it off when used with Android Auto in the vehicle....overlook or just on purpose for some unknown reason..

I bought the paid version of PowerAmp for $8 and will stick with it since it has been great so far for playing my local songs on the phones SD card.
