Good morning folks,
I'm not going to bore you with all the details we already know, but I'll share some of the pics I took last night and tell you my initial thoughts on it after driving it home and to work this morning.
I ordered an Area 51 Lariat Lux, with the EcoBoost, CoPilot 360, and the optional black rims. I ordered through Crossroads Ford in Wake Forest on July 9th. I got scheduled to be built on October 11th, and it was shipped on November 20th. It arrived last night, after being delayed twice. It was incredibly easy to go into the dealership, sign the paperwork, and take delivery. I sent all of the paperwork before heading to the dealership, and it was just a matter of putting the deal together. Took about an hour from the time we arrived, to the time I moved everything over to the Mav, and drove off the lot. Not too bad.
Initial Thoughts:
- Super comfortable. I don't care if it's synthetic leather, vegan leather, or vinyl. Whatever you want to call it, the seats are super comfortable.
- It's quiet. I had a phone call on the way home from the dealership, and it was easy to hear the other person and have a conversation without raising my voice. It's also very quiet on the road.
- The ride is nice. It rides nicer than my Grand Cherokee.
- My kids love it. They have plenty of room in the back seat.
- The 8 inch screen is perfect. I would have liked the bigger screen, but I like the 8 inch screen and it works perfectly for me.
- The wireless charger is nice and it picks up my phone quickly.
- I love the color. If you ordered Area 51, be very happy. It's so nice and I've already gotten so many compliments on it.
- Back to the interior, the navy blue is not as navy blue as people think. It looks really good with the brown and A51.
- The B&O sound system is good. I'm not an audiophile, by any means, but it is nice and clear.
- The FordPass app has been good, so far.
- The lights are BRIGHT. I was expecting them to be good, but they are really good. Super bright.
- The auto bright feature is also cool. It works seamlessly and I'll probably leave it on.
- The brake hold took me by surprise. It's actually pretty neat.
- The start/stop is not annoying at all. Even though I turn it off, it's a smooth transition from stop to start. Much less brash than other cars.
- The remote start is super quick and quiet.
- The soft touch areas are good and plush.
- The interior plastics look great. Ford did a really good job making things not look cheap.
- It is a very solid and sturdy build. Nothing feels flimsy.
Initial...... gripes? Very minor things.
- It takes some getting used to what direction to turn the shifter wheel.
- Backing up, I used to have the auto lowering mirrors, so I have to remind myself to be more aware of curbs and the like.
- It moves fast in reverse.
- The engine is a little buzzy, but nothing bad, annoying, or irksome.
- I don't like the horn honking twice to remind me that there is no key in the car when the truck is on. I know the horn honking is necessary, and I know Ford doesn't do beeps, but in the early morning, sometimes I go out and put things in the car, and I feel like I'm being too loud when the horn honks because of the that.
- The rear tether for the car seat is awkward and kind of annoying to get to, but once it's locked in, it's solid and sturdy.
- I really wish the rear bench was split.
- I"m averaging around 20 MPG around the city in a day and a half, but it's trending upwards. I've been trying to figure out how to drive it efficiently. It'll get better with time, I'm sure.
I know that this is the honeymoon stage, and I know there will be more gripes and things that will irritate me..... maybe.....
But this really is a huge win for Ford. It's the perfect truck for people like me.
If you're waiting, wait. It's worth it. It really is. I'm ready to start digging around and trying out all its features.
