I have owned a number of trucks over the years. Most had an open bed, a few had toppers, but I've never had one with a tonneau.

Obviously that's going to change or I wouldn't be here asking about drain holes.

Anyhow, there have been a number of posts I've seen over the year and a half or so I've been here about drain lines on tonneau covers.

My question is what are they actually draining?

It seems to me that any water that gets into the bed will go out the beds drain holes. Any water that gets repelled by the cover will just go off the side and onto the street.

The only thing I can think of is draining the rails of anything that gets into them.

I guess what I'm asking is how much of an issue is that?

I'll be installing a BAK Revolver X4S hard rollup when my truck arrives in a few weeks. (shipped over the weekend, getting excited) I intend to follow the instructions with the cover, so if it calls for drains I'll install them. Just wondering what the logic is since I've never set one up before.

I've only seen them on the retractable ones that have a canister. A bak hard roll up shouldn't have them. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have same cover and NO DRAINS OR PROBLEMS. It works fantastic. I have learned to roll it back with a little speed the last couple of feet and it latches itself without having to press the top. Nothing compares to it.

Anyone else’s brain immediately go to, “nothing compares to you?” 🎶

I pologize and forgot you alone have the privilege to an opinion. Try to encourage people for just one day and it will do wonders. No, I am not going to get into a running battle with you. I have nothing1 more to say except have a nice day.
