I’ve never plugged a tire.

Replaced thousands & patched dozens of bicycle tubes - but never “plugged” a tubeless vehicle tire.

Anyone have a favorite plug kit recommendation? I found this $19.99 kit - but I prefer specific tools etc for my Maverick instead of universal generic stuff.

Please note - this kit is for traveling beyond any help & having multiple flats on multiple tires. That is, I’ll never use it - but want to keep it in truck anyway. I just want a plug kit. You can assume I have everything else:)

I got this at a very reasonable price at Amazon. It works fine.

Not completely true. Safety Seal CAN go into the sidewalls no problem.
Can and should are different notions here. Sidewall damage is much more likely to compromise the structure of the tire leading to a blow-out. If it's a true emergency, sure... plug the sidewall and limp to the nearest shop at 20mph for a tire replacement. Tread plugs can last the life of the tire in full service... though it's still wise to replace the tire or have it patched internally.

Last 20 year scorecard is something like... one plug done by me early in tire life did 80,000 rest of tire life, another towards end of tire life did 20,000 to EOL, one done under an extended tire warranty to a newish tire by a tire shop, the tire blew out badly about 15,000 miles later. Sidewall and shoulders, never had to do a side of the road plug, had a spare, just replaced tire. But yeah, that would be a "get your ass to the shop" fix if I did it.

3 or 4 times, tire was still holding air well and noticed clicking on city pavement, checked and saw screw or nail so just drove it right to a tire shop.

I guess I picked up the "frequent kit replacement" philosophy from bikes where I'd find my kits had solid glue and unpliable/unsticky patches when I needed them. So just rotate cheap kits now.

I was using a plug the other day to plug my daughter‘s car and I found this picture that was with the documents inside the 46 year old Safety Seal box. Guess I better limp it over to the tire shop. 😂😂😂
