"The Mav Signal" (Maverick Wave)

It's no secret that we, as Maverick owners, are privileged to be in such an exclusive society. Ford still isn't cranking them out like crazy yet and the supply still has not quite met demand either.

That said: I feel compelled to salute every Maverick owner I see on my travels. I feel an unspoken camaraderie with them/you guys.

I usually end up acknowledging that by giving them what I've deemed "The Mav Signal". I just give a littlein passing-which, when I position my hand where my pinky and thumb are pointing upwards, it kinda looks like...you guessed it...Maverick horns!

Just trying to gauge the community on this one: Is it cool or am I nuts for doing this? (My daughter thinks it's the latter.)

I don't think anyone's implying owning a Maverick is a sign of privilege

Seems like owning ANY new car today is a privilege ! Payments have increased a lot in just a short time. To each his own I say.

This form of behavior is common among Jeep enthusiasts, try waving at them from your Maverick and see what happens.

I rented a Wrangler for a week a few years back, and I did get a lot of waves, peace signs, and friendly honks from other Jeep drivers. I just chalked it up to my good looks! Lol

I have gotten waved back. What is funny is that we both see each other trying to see each other!! The wave is the "Yeah, I was looking to see if you were looking at me" confirmation.

The Maverick is a nice little truck but to wave at another Maverick owner....I don't think so. The Corvette, Jeeps & Mini Cooper owners typically wave at each other (Ex Mini Cooper owner here) which is OK b/c they have a deep history / following....Google Mini on the Mack.

To each, his own. I get a kick out of it myself, and I actually do see it brightening other Maverick owners' day sometimes, even if only for that singular moment.

Thanks @Maverickman74! I never knew that it had an official name! When I used to skateboard many moons ago, it was just part of the skate/surf/BMX culture that obviously never left me all these years later!

Hardly anyone waved when I had my 69 plymouth GTX, custom 68 mustang with built 302 or my 72 Datsun 510 with L18 motor. Doesn't matter what car you have, what matters is if the person driving is a car enthusiast.

I ordered the first day back on the summer of '21 and received my Maverick the first week of March 2022, over two years ago. They were extremely rare then, but I never noticed any waves, gestures, or secret handshakes. One guy asked about it at the gas pumps, but never the fandom that other folks mention. I did have a few express sympathy when it wouldn't start, being new and all.

That’s funny I have been thinking the same thing but I was thinking more like the “W” as done for west coast but upside down to make an “M” as seen in Malibu’s Most Wanted but “M” for Maverick

That said, some kind of acknowledgement is nice. Back in the days, we British sports car drivers just waved to each other, although there was a "seniority" chain on who waved first. The Porsche folks would blink their lights at each other. Years later, when I got my Miata, I would wave at Miata drivers, who NEVER waved back. Half of the were women, which I suspect might have something to do with it. I miss the good ol' days, but please come up with something besides "hook 'em horns."

College rivalries run deep. I totally and fully understand!
