Haha all this time I installed mine backwards as well! Thanks Ford Marketing!
Also, time to learn from my next mistake:
When reinstalling, just tap the ball clips to the top with something like a flat edge and something heavy (used a mini screwdriver and the side of my ratchet. Couple taps and the clip will rise and you can pull the ball out of the socket. Repeat on the other side.
Also, when putting it all back, connect the thin side first (to the bottom of the tailgate), lightly tap back the clip into place (hand tapping will work now) then connect the top plate to the fat side (plate is NOT connected to the truck). THEN you can close your tailgate until the plate reaches the screw hole and you can connect it all after.
The gas strut is compressed so you're not opening it fully with your hands anytime soon so you have to use the weight of the tailgate to manoeuvre the last ball joint.
Also prob suggest to cut and reapply heat shrink to the ripped up cable.
Thanks for this thread, team!
