I don't remember if I posted this before or not, but my tailgate is locked and nothing will open it. Have a tonneau cover on it so the bed is inaccessible for now. The lock/unlock buttons have no effect, the key fob has no affect, the key itself has no effect, the phone app has no effect. When you pull on the handle there is no tension, when you insert the key it has a spongy feel to it. Last time luckily I didn't not need in the bed so no bid deal, this time I did need in the bed but it wasn't a world ending tragedy but just a minor inconvenience. Anybody else have this issue? The last time was several months ago and I took the tailgate apart and adjusted the rods, it seemed to help but I think it was more coincidental than a fix. For now WHEN I get it open I'll roll up the cover. Any ideas?

This sounds like you need to head over to your dealer to find out what's going on. I realize no one wants to be without their truck for any length of time, but I'd go to the dealer with this. Always a chance you'll only make it worse or put it out of warranty.

Most likely that the motor for the lock is faulty, you should be able to get it replaced, if someone can open it. It's also possible that water got in and it's just frozen, that would be a best case scenario.

Trouble is, with the cover on there, no one will have access to the back of the tailgate, which is where the lock mechanism is located. You could be in for a world of hurt.

I can hear the motor attempting to open it, just doesn't ,weird thing is it opened maybe 3-4 minutes before that and it was warm and dry.

At this point, I'd just take it to the dealer. Sounds like you've tried all the "typical" things...

This just became a problem for me. Same thing. It was working no problem but now it's locked and I can't access it and the trifold tonneau cover is down. Turning the key in the lock feels wrong and all the other doors are fine.

It's dealer time..

Hmmm.... this seems like kind of a big deal, if you have a tonneau. I don't know any other way to get to the TG latch/lock assy other than destroying the tonneau.

Will Ford cover the cost of a new tonneau under warranty if this happens???

Mine is going to the dealer on the 26th, they got it open somehow and I have not rolled up the cover since and the tailgate refuses to open. The tech was guessing a solenoid, I'm thinking the same way. I'm going to get the airbag recall done as well. I will let you know what they found on my tailgate.

Well, it opened this morning. Maybe it was just frozen? The sun was on the tailgate all morning. Still going to get it checked though and curious what your solution will be.

Follow up inquiry:
How did this work out for you? I re-read the thread and was wondering if you could use a blow dryer to maybe warm up the lock to get it to move more easily. Anyway, hope you got this problem resolved.
