Strut channel bed crossbars?

I'm looking at options for mounting a cargo basket in the bed of my Mav and finding pretty much every option for bed racks to be prohibitively expensive. I had a thought this morning of making some crossbars with struct channel (probably B channel) and some 90 degree brackets and just attaching them to the bed using the threaded holes for the rail system. Has anyone attempted this? I think it will be fairly inexpensive and easy to do.

Have you seen the crossbars at kbvoodoo.com? I found those and was thinking of a temp mounting of my Harbor Freight cargo carrier…
