This morning since there was little traffic on the interstate, I thought it would be a good time to test my mav's cruise control. I set it for 60 miles per hour and it held that speed perfectly while negotiating slight hills and dips.
Remembering I had not fastened my seat belt I tried to pull and latch it with one hand but couldn't get it to click so after a few tries I momentarily let go of the steering wheel to use both my hands to pull and secure the belt.I knew I had act quickly before the car would start drifting. It started drifting a little but just before I could get my hands back on the wheel it corrected itself quickly within my lane. With both hands back on the wheel I thought that was a little strange so I opened my hands just off the wheel to see how my Mav would track with no input from me. This time the steering wheel corrected by itself all the while staying perfectly in my lane.
I thought maybe this was just a result of very good wheel alignment so growing braver I didn't touch the wheel again and it held speed and it stayed straight in my lane for mile after mile. I was dumbfounded. No hands on the wheel and even on slight curves it held the lane perfectly. The real test came as I overtook a slower car and it changed lanes by itself.
Do you think that maybe I had received a Ford self driving experimental Mav by mistake? but needless to say I was thrilled, maybe I can now relax on my long commute to work but I wonder if any of this was due to taking place today, the first day of April?
