Hey MTC,

I just installed the Steeda rear anti-sway bar (link to product) on my 22 AWD Maverick. The installation went well, but they included 2 metal rings in the box and I can't find information on them anywhere. From the Steeda and YouTuber install videos, there doesn't seem to be anything mentioned. They look like they are spaces for the control links, but I'm not sure if I could even put them in if I wanted.

Pictures of the rings are below, as well as the mounted bar. Please let me know if you know what they are for and/or if I should try to get them installed.

Also, if you're looking at installing a rear sway bar, it's been great! You'll defs need a T50 & T40 socket to remove the bolts on the control arms, and I highly recommend lowering the exhaust to help with removing the old 1.

Rings/Spaces:
They are about the width of the bar and have 2 set screws.

Installed Bar:
I don't think there is enough thread for the spacer here, but it might go on the bar itself???

My guess is that they go on the bar, either inboard between the two bushings/brackets, or outboard on the outside of them to keep the bar from moving laterally (left or right) and contacting parts of the vehicle it shouldn't. I know that's a concern with aftermarket sway bars in general on other cars. A quick Google search reveals this thread from an Explorer forum which looks like it supports that thought.

oh snap! you're a genius!

The bar I have doesn't have nubs to prevent it from moving left to right. These "shaft collars" likely go on the bar, next to the anchor points to prevent it from shifting left/right and hitting the suspension/springs

Unfortunately, I didn't take a full pic of the bar, but I can definitely confirm the bar does not have any stops or rim like I've seen in the past. It's just a smooth cylinder/tube.

Do you think these rings are absolutely necessary?
The maverick doesn't have much around the control/toe link, and it's nowhere near the rear springs. I mainly don't want to have to jack the car back up if they're only really needed for other cars with clearance issues.

@Tscottok I would bet you are fine without them, stock bar doesn't have collars either...

Sounds good. I reached out to Steeda to see if they have any additional info, but still waiting to hear back.

I'll let you guys know if I hear any sounds/signs of contact before I install the rings

the spacers force the bar to twist, without it allows the bar to bend at ends softening it's rating

I know this is an old thread, but did you get anywhere with this? Curious to see what steeds said, and also if you ever installed the collars?

funny enough I recently installed this and had the same problem- saw this post. The spacers act as a weld stop. I don’t think they are necessary. In fact I installed mine where they are supposed to go and they were getting caught on the corner of the bushing. I could have moved them over but just took them off. No issues. have been checking the set up. Attached is a photo I found from Steeda.

Following up here. I did a bunch of research and it looks like Steeda changed from weld stoppers to clamped collars. This was intended to remove week spots and pressure points that cracked some of their other bars.

I ended up noticing that my bar had moved a little to 1 side and did end up putting the collars on. I lubed the bushing because they squeaked a bit (be careful on what you use as to not swell the bushing), and the lube stopped it.

I put them on the outside of bushings, but am not sure which side is best. It's really just to stop the bar from moving

On my install, when putting them on either side of the bushing they make contact with the subframe. They seem to be slightly too large of diameter. Disappointed, seems like a poorly executed work around to the other issue.
