Hey everyone,

I'm driving a 2.0L AWD XLT and I have noticed every time it is cold outside(-20ish), my first few stops my breaks are really squeaky, then fine after a few stops its fine.

I've got 19,040km on my truck, still on the initial pads / rotors from factory, anyone else notice this?

My initial thought is that its just cheap pads / rotors from factory, and when they are cold they are just squeaky also thinking 19,000K is to early for padds to be worn out and if they were it would be everytime I stop and not just the first couple when its cold.

Mexican rotors. Not built for cold weather.

This is can be normal for any car made regardless of price tag. Don't believe me, come pay a visit and I can point it out on $300K cars. I don't know what all the dynamics are, but when it is cold it will often induce some squeak for a few applications, and often under light braking while reversing and cold. If you pay super close attention when cold before being driven you might even see some slight rusting in the rotors. If you see that then you should definitely expect it to happen.

The brakes never squeaked on my 2012 Focus until the dealer replaced the front pads at 125K (I did the rear pads at 190K). After that if it's below about 45F they will squeak coming out of the driveway and at the first stop sign at the end of the block. No rust needed.

Has to be the pad composition.

People complain about squeaky Escape brakes all the time....Ford says it is normal. I assume that the Maverick pads are made with similar material!

Thanks for the replies folks,

Kind of what I was assuming, when I do my first brake swap I'll just do some research and just spring for something a little nicer that won't yell when cold.
