Yes, you can shift modes while driving it'll void your warranty though.

There's about a 5 second lag before recognizes the new mode.

Has any one smoked the tires on their Maverick Hybrid using the Sport Mode?

With that said, I tried the Sport mode on my hybrid and it took off!
So if I ever have a circumstance where I need to get out of the way quickly, Sport mode will do it! Lol!

It's fun when you have a small section of twisty road. When not busy, don't want someone in the way.
Because the steering changes too.
Strong regen too, and lots of motor use for extra torque.
So going into and out of the corners can be fun.

Then back to Eco/Normal mode with extra gentle driving to make up for the fun.

I like using sport mode at a red light when I have one of those monster trucks next to me reving their engine. When the light turns green, I see them in my rear-view before I hit 40 and hear them still making all kinds of noise. No smoking tires here yet.

Lol, you don't have to stand on it to dust those heavy trucks. Especially going up a hill from a red light.
