I get the need to get people to slow down and when conventional methods are ignored, it can be an open invitation to big brother politics.
There's a city here in Southern California that is experimenting with cameras that are triggered if a vehicle is operating 10mph or more over the speed limit. I think that is a much better alternative to built-in speed reduction.
The way I read this from California, is they originally wanted a physical device that would limit a vehicle to a max of 10 miles per hour over the posted limit. They settled on a warning device instead because Newsome indicated he did not want the original bill (with a restrictive actual device) passed in an election year as some would be weaponized as a political tool. (wow, he got one right). So looks like you guys are going to get a "warning device" My take (old guy here) is you most likely, after the election of course, get an actual mechanical/electronic device that may limit your vehicle to no more than the ten over speed limit. We used to call action like this the old "slippery slope". Good luck.

After posting my previous response, I realized that we DO already have that (those with the Forscan Mod) enabled. TSR. My speed limit sign blinks constantly when I am over the limit. It is adjustable in the dash settings, so I guess I have to live with myself! Hahaha. The bummer would be when Ford takes it over upon request of a national law passed and you will be fined for speeding at some point? Guilty verdict (self incrimination) given out by your own vehicle. Or, Ford makes an adjustment where actual vehicle will only let the Maverick do 10 over. Boy the attorneys will have a field day! Let the accidents begin!

It is how big business and big politicians work together. In your example (true with most VERY big corporations) The politician, (both the "D" and the "R") gets you a super large tax break to lure you to their state/city/whatever. Or, said politician gives you a nice fat several billion dollar "incentive" (Micron, Boise?) to build some new "chips." (not potato). Now comes election time, and Mr. Politician opens up his pocket as wheelbarrows of CASH from Micron...Errr the "business" pour into Mr. Politician's pocket! It's called "buying votes".
Easy Peezy. Nothing new. Been like this for generations and will continue. A few years later when that round of money dries up you have "round two" and on and on and....
Speaking to the Federal level, there is no justification that Amazon paid 6% in 2023, GM paid 5.4% in 2023 [higher is previous years however] except the lobbyists get the ear of legislators and you and I can't afford to hire one. I paid at a rate of 23%. Life just ain't fair!

Back in the day, my dad had a 1972 Buick with a "speed minder" feature. You set it manually and it buzzed if you exceeded the set speed. It was mechanical of course, you turned something and a pointer rotated to indicate the setting. But you could exceed the setting, you either had to endure the buzz as when passing or turn it off entirely.

This is why you and I pay so much in taxes:

Amazon reported record profits of more than $35 billion (75 percent higher than its 2020 record haul) and paid just 6 percent of those profits in federal corporate income taxes. If Amazon had no tax breaks, it would have paid 21 percent of its profits in corporate income taxes, or more than $7.3 billion.
Yes, but how much taxes were paid by their employees? Those corporate tax breaks is what led to those thousands of jobs.

Other than stock buy backs what specifically did those companies do to create more jobs with those tax savings? Say for example John Deere?

Yes. Warning messages flash when set speed is attempted. Radio can be set to mute until front seat belts are on. Audio system can be set to limit volume. SEE MY KEY in manual. 2022 is page 66! I think I would buy a third key but any key other than admin key can be set to MyKey. All configurable options are selectable. I call this the "valet key"!🤗
Yup!
It’s the Ford “MyKey” “feature”. I hate it, but it might be good if you let others drive your Maverick. Only my wife has been allowed to drive my Maverick, and even then in specific situations! (No, not sexist. She is a great driver, and neither of us have been in an accident in the last 30-years. I trust her, I just hate letting my Maverick out of sight?)
Thanks for this info. I assume since My Key has been available for some time that the tech has as well and still no Guv stampede to apply it across the board.
Little more than click bait crying wolf.

Interesting. I think the mechanical or electrical device would be a wrong move not only politically, but we just don't need any more nanny infringement by the government. Hire more police, more radar patrols or whatever. Hopefully, the camera idea (with enforcement) will deter the excessive speeding I'm seeing.

I had that on my 1963 Riviera.

OMG, those original Riv's were beautiful! A neighbor had a silver one with black leather. True boat of a car in the best Detroit tradition. Amazing style and never ending chrome.

I had 2 of them, I bought a 1964 new when I was 24, I was always a car guy. After I retired, moved to Florida in 2011, I decided to find another one. I found a 1963 from Sacremento Ca. with 19 options the same color of my original car. Keep it until 2019. Still have my 1956 Thunderbird 3 speed / overdrive, another rare find factory car.
