South Florida Hybrid owners save on tolls

This applies only to Hybrids (not just Ford, but any hybrids). I-95 Express expanded their no toll program to include HYBRID owners.

I-95 in South Florida has express lanes were you can pay to avoid the clogged free lanes. During rush hour these tolls can be quite hefty. However, for $10 you can use these lanes for free, of course, with a few exceptions, IF YOU HAVE AN EV or a HYBRID.

To get started you have to fill out the form 83027 from the State of Florida.

Take it to a local tag agency and they will issue you an HOV decal. The cost is $10. With the registration number on the decal, you can register with I-95 express.

Couple of things:

- DO NOT USE THE EXPRESS LANES WITHOUT GETTING YOUR APPROVAL.
- MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR SUNPASS IN THE PROTECTIVE BAG SO IT'S NOT READ WHEN GOING THROUGH.
- MONITOR YOUR SUNPASS STATEMENT TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T CHARGE YOU.
- YOU HAVE TO PUT A BIG UGLY DECAL ON THE BACK WINDOW AND A BIG UGLY DECAL ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD.
- THIS ONLY APPLIES TO MAVERICK HYBRIDS not EB (sorry).
- YOU HAVE TO REGISTER YEARLY.

I used it last week and the tolls where $ 11.75 to I got my money back on the registration fee.

For those of you not from South FLA the I-95 Express tolls can bet pricey.

Nope. Only for the HOV lanes on I-95 (believe me, I looked). For the few times I'm on the east coast and driving on I-95, I'll just stay in the regular lanes. But it sure would be nice if they'd expand it to Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Use SunPass with the windshield decal all over the state, including the turnpike and also the i-95 HOV lines a lot. Wonder how to make both work as can't put decal in an envelope so as to not get charged.

Sorry for the confusion. When you are using the I-95 express lanes. You put your sunpass in the shielding bag they give you. That way it can’t read it. When they go to charge your license plate they will see the decals from the pictures and delete the charge.

when you register with I-95 Express they send you documentation and a shield bag.
BTW it ONLY applies to I-95 in South Florida. It does NOT apply to the turnpike. If you use the express lanes you will be charged on the turnpike
