Maverick 2023 Hybrid. Dec. 12-13, 2023. After numerous problems with navigation, radio, a/c, screen lock up, blank screen, blue blank screen. I took my Maverick to the dealer. I got a ride home in my own truck and was left without a loaner for two days. I was told the software was completely replaced. Previous to the repairs, i was averaging 44-46 mpg. Over the first week it gradually dropped until now it avgs. 35 mpg. My driving habits did not change. I was told it was common to have a drop in mileage in cold weather. I don't accept that explanation. It was colder before the fix, the mileage was consistent. This week the temperatures have risen to high 40's, and my mileage is still locked in at 35 mpg. I did notice a new problem that did not exist before the fix. My drive was always set on eco, and never had to change it. Since the fix, it now defaults to normal, and I have to manually scroll through the drives to get back to eco. It shows as a little leaf on the center lower screen. It has to be reset every time I shut if off and restart it. The mileage is still at 35mpg. Before the fix, one of the numerous problems I had was the radio voice commands malfunctioning and not recognizing stations, defaulting to the lowest number station regardless of am, Fm, or satelite radio, locking up, as stated in the beginning.
Another issue is as I approach a stop sign slowly with light pedal pressure on the brake, the truck nosedives the last few feet as if i had pressed harder on the brake. It is not every time, just on smooth slow stops. I see on the internet that this is not an uncommon problem.
I want to drive the truck to Florida in February, I would like to get back to the mileage I was getting before the software fix. I do not accept the response that this is common for hybrids in the winter. I don't want software patch, reprogram, reset, that may cause another issue in a new part of the computer driven system. Any advice? I've spent too much on window trim, fender splash guards, hood edge protector, window tint, spray in bedliner, bed cover, dash protector. I like the truck. It is exactly what I wanted. The recalls and computer issues have diminished the value, and I cant honestly sell it to someone without the recalls, computer issues, unsatisfactory repairs scaring them away from purchasing it.

I don’t believe it’s ever supposed to default to Eco mode like you’ve described. The current behavior you describe where it always starts in Normal mode and you have to change it to Eco mode is normal for the Ecoboost engine, and I thought also normal for the hybrid.

If you lookin the ForScan forms, people are trying to figure out how to hack it to default to Eco mode like you describe. The only solution found so far is to disable the normal mode (and any other modes that appear first in the list before eco mode), to effectively make Eco mode the first choice.

if you somehow had default to Eco mode before, and now don’t, could that explain the mileage differences you are facing, on average, if you are driving more often in normal mode without realizing?

Defaulting to Normal drive mode is how it's supposed to operate. Most new owners don't like or expect it to function that way, but it is normal operation. The fact it no longer stays in Eco mode shows that your dealer did some sort of software changes.

As for mileage, many Hybrid owners on MTC, including myself, have found that selecting Slippery mode provides better MPG than Eco mode. Try using that mode for a week or so and see if it helps increase your MPGs.

Your problems with the Lariat's Infotainment system are exactly why I avoid buying vehicles with upper-end features. It just adds to the list of crap that eventually goes FUBAR.

Are you calculating the MPGs manually? I find the computer MPGs to be high by 3-4 MPGs. Maybe the update made a correction.

I use the display. It was a consistent 44-46 mpg regardless of weather. I reset the mileage, took a three hour trip in slippery mode and got less than 1mpg better. Service writer can only relay to me what the mechanic tells her. If I need an oil change, they are quick to be helpful. When I document and give them a written report of the problem, they are quick to tell me I can get my repairs at any dealership. They also revealed to me when I asked if I would be responsible for the same software issues and repairs after the warranty expires they said yes I would. Thank you for your response and suggestions. Wish I had the S.C. post experience where the mechanic came to the house and made the software update in her driveway. They don't want to listen, and I asked them to at least contact Ford for assist and if they don't want to deal with it put it in writing they don't want to try. I will be calling the Ford customer service number I found on the FMCO site to look into options Monday.

My mileage also dropped after software update (22 Hybrid Lariat) dealer basiclly told me to pound sand when I asked if that can be corrected as did Ford.

I have a '22 Lariat, and noticed my mileage dipped from 43 mpg down to 35 mpg after the software update. I took it to the local Ford dealer's service dept, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Mine is in line for a complete wipe/reinstall of the software package because my trailer brake is all messed up. I'll have to keep an eye on if my MPG plummets or anything new pops up.

Hi there, Tony. These software concerns doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Maverick. If you are still in need of assistance, could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation". I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.
