Rustling/Chirping Sound While Driving

8 speed transmission with AWD and 4k tow. I know sounds are tricky for a forum post so I'll see if my dashcam picks up on it.

Randomly when my transmisison shifts I'll hear what sounds like a rustling/fluttering/chirping sound. I can best describe it like stepping on a pile of leaves. It doesn't do it every time and it seems isolated to the middle gears. I can get a longer duration of the sound if I hold a gear while merging on the highway. My transmission has had harsh and delayed shifts right from the day I bought it new. I've had it at the dealer twice and they claim no codes have been tripped, the fluid is "fine" and they weren't able to reproduce the problem even though, according to the mileage, they didn't even road test it.

Has anyone else heard a similar sound? Maybe it's not the transmission but something else?

I'm watching this thread in hopes of a general discussion of strange sounds from the engine.

I can't say as I've had what you describe, but I get a sound that makes me think there a siren way off in the distance. Kept checking my mirrors for the first week or so, to see if I should pull over.

But luckily, it didn't sound like anything that was 'wrong'.
