I don't live where they salt the roads or even get snow. If I want snow, I go to where it is, then home to SoCal. This is not a direct answer to your question but...

I would be concerned about the gap in the sides of the bed trapping snow/water and expanding and contracting, constantly stay wet and causing rust. Plus trapping all manner of debris, mulch, pebbles, etc. etc.

I felt so strongly about this such that I bought a tube of black 3M auto grade seam caulk and caulked the side seams. It matches the factroy black SIBL. I can no longer see daylight when I look into my bed.

No more Rusty Jones rustproofing.
I understand Ziebart is still in business.
One of the benefits of living in the 🏜 Desert Southwest.
Is that we have some real old
"rust free" vehicles.
Good luck.

I was just watching a YouTube video last night where the owner of a couple of Mavericks and the one thing he stressed was that underbody rustproofing is a bit lacking and for once actually recommended some added protection

I know it's a cheaper vehicle, for these days anyway, but I don't think extra rust proofing should be required to make a modern vehicle last at 10 years- assuming that's the case. Cheap out on the things I can see and I can make a clear decision if it's worth it or not. It reminds me of a flipped house that looks great but the structure isn't done well

My go-to after moving to upstate NY has been the Waxoyl product. It seeps into all of the areas that most other products can’t get to. And it doesn’t clog up any natural drainage channels that may have been built in or create pockets that trap moisture. I get it done at CorrsionProPlus, great customer service. I think it’s a franchise.

If you want to DIY, Fluid Film is very easy and effective. You’ll just need to do touch ups annually.
Yep I have had great results here in PA with Fluid Film. I have to get under my Maverick start spraying. I usually do a spring and fall application.

This works (used since 1970); 1 part urethane, 1 part boiled linseed oil. Thin with mineral sprits until it’s the consistency of automotive primer. Wear throw away clothes and go to town. This combination seeps into nooks and crannies and lasts many years.

I went to Bullet Liner in Green Bay, WI. as soon as it arrived. They use a 2 step process, rustproofing with a woolwax type application in all the cavities, then an undercoating. About $500. They let you bring it back annually for inspection at no cost.

I'm beginning to feel like a negligent car owner. I've never done any of this stuff. When I was in my twenties I bought a Nissan in the mid '90s that lasted 20 years before rust started the show and I never did anything on it. Also I live in Pennsylvania so I do get road salt.
I'm not against it and I find it interesting to see people's own systems and products they use but I didn't even realize so many people did this stuff these days.
