I can’t find it, but someone told me that the best Tonneau cover was the tri-fold because it could hold 300-lbs. Ford says the hard roll up can hold 350-lbs.

I’m sure that it doesn’t matter to me.

I have this cover. It's the Ford branded hard rollup cover. There are no specifications on how much weight it will hold, but I wouldn't test it. There are thin aluminum bars that run accross the rails that are covered in aa fabric/fake leather material.

They're not holding any significant weight.

I don’t have any reason to put something on the tonneau cover, but I found that the roll-up would support 360-lbs.

I don’t know, and I don’t care, but those who act like the tri-fold is the best are saying so based on personal opinion.

Gentleman, gentleman I must respectfully disagree with both of you🤔. I have a Hybrid Maverick with the hard roll up cover and it will hold a lot more then 350 pounds .😧 It will hold a blue Ford pickup and a Texas long horn steer and you know that everything is Bigger In Texas so that's ALOT more then 350 pounds see pic got proof 🤔⁉😱 .

A few retailer sites are claiming the TruXedo Sentry can hold u to 400 lbs *key words* EVENLY DISTRIBUTED. That's only ~20 lbs. / square foot in reality.

TruXedo Sentry CT Hard Tonneau Cover

I can tell you the slats are fairly lightweight and slightly flex if you really push down on them in the middle but are strong enough to hold a hand-carried toolbox, detailing supplies, 12" buffer, coffee mug, etc. Basically makes a nice convenient shelf to put stuff while you work in the bed but I wouldn't want to try hauling mulch, block, firewood or anything else heavy on top; the covers are made to roll-up for a reason.

Not apropos of weight conversation- but I do agree with Vettereddie on the general practicality. Great for putting something down, tools, a drink whatever. I may have fudged that rule with some furniture on my Truxedo on my Ranger - but in general think of the load support as occasional hand wavey light use and ignore that hundreds of pounds.

Obviously exceptions abound like one guy I know who balanced a whole other truck and steer on his - must be something in the air where he is…

BUT in all seriousness what I did come to give is some consumer feedback on the Truxedo vs Bak X4S.

I had the Truxedo (which I may be wrong but I think is what Ford brands OEM) on a 5G Ranger. It the was great and if offered one again wouldn’t deny it. The ease of rolling vs folding I’ve had with previous hardcovers. The low profile. The general look. The way you can just casually open part of it and not care if just running over to storage.

All great! Great product, no remorse.

However.

This Maverick got the Bak X4S. It does a couple things a bit nicer (for me) than the Truxedo.

1) The way the side rails secure. They are IN a track as opposed to the Truxedo’s ON that snaps in. In real life, not a huge deal but sometimes with the Truxedo I had to snap the sides down or I’d have a little hill - if that makes sense.

2) The tailgate interaction. With the Truxedo I had to slightly open the tonneau then close the tailgate, then close the tonneau. With the Bak - opening and closing the tailgate you just leave the tonneau as is.

Note: My commentary above is based on a Ranger Truxedo - recent model upper end (forgetting the exact model) so MAYBE the Maverick version is different but just offered as a friendly bit of input for anyone about to drop a lot of pennies into either of these. They both cost about the same - I pretty much gambled with the Bak as the reviews I read didn’t call these two points out.

One counter point is the straps that secure the Truxedo when it’s rolled up - I like better than the Bak. The truxedo has “simpler” loops - the Bak a more complicated plastic piece that I guarantee I’ll find a way to snap/break/crack on at least one side before it’s time is done…

One last point. Some will quibble that one is slightly more secure than the other. They are both just covers - secure enough to stay on the truck and do what they are intended to do - and that’s not to be metal hard sided tool cases. Both could be easily defeated with a crowbar and probably just a screwdriver applied appropriately on the tailgate. But in the out of sight out of mind and security through obscurity camps both are fine. Parking next to Clark’s Family Truckster - your bed will be empty. Your local Target - you’ll probably be fine.

I installed the TruXedo Sentry CT on my Father's Maverick and I am not impressed at all with the quality compared to the BAK X4S I installed on mine. I can't seem to find it now but when I was researching roll up covers I found a video of a guy standing on the X4S to test the strength and it held up perfectly fine. I did find this torture test video of the X4S which is also rated for 400lbs of even distributed weight. I've had my X4S on for a year and a half now and it has held up really well, I'm very happy with it.
