He told me it was a re-engineered plastic piece that they were putting on. If they replaced the actual cover then that was a lie. I mean is the bak revolver better? But still, that's not what I understood to be happening.
Just what it looks like to me. The Ford branded OEM is a bak revolver x2, branded with Ford logos. If I'd known the x4 was an option, I probably would have gotten it - even without the logo - for exactly this felt-falling-off reason.

They replaced your OEM with the bak revolver x4
The Ford cover was a Ford branded (maybe not branded anymore) BAK X2 cover, not the BAK X4s. See the links to the Realtruck product pages to see the two different products. Looks like the replacement was an X2, not an X4s.

AFAIK, the X2 has the bare "silver" aluminum color underside and the X4s has a black underside. The X2 originally had the felt (see the video on the product page), and now seems to have the hard rubber that the X4s has.

I should be getting my X4s on Friday that I ordered with a discount that I got by contacting @Realtruck here on the forum. My discount was 15% off for the X4s (total 17% off my full order) of RealTruck's webstore prices. I personally went with the X4s primarily for the slightly more matte top finish.

I guess there was no real solution for the felt. But replacing the whole thing might be better!

I don't care much for the Ford logo. I rather have an updated, functional, minimal leakage cover.

How do I approach my dealership to convince them to replace it as well? I already told them It leaks too much and extremely hot to the touch. It would be nice if I could get the X4s!

I ordered the Rev from the Ford website. Apparently it's a newer version, no logo. I didn't know the older one was felt. I ordered it for the Ford logo, but It looks like this may be built better with the plastic.

Tuesday 8-8 Update: the hillbilly felt fix fell, still on only the starboard side (odd). Service appointment set for 8-17,with this Thread at-the-ready to show the Service Advisor.

I realize it’s more a PITA than a safety issue, but it’s also ‘not right’. Tired of opening the rear deck and seeing a line of black felt laying in the bed. Even more tired of crawling into the closed discs, on my back, to reattach the felt. Ugh.

Stay tuned. I’ll know more next week (weak?). On to the day!

What is the felt for?? Don't understand what it does? Mine is falling off due to heat, but I just reapply back in place.

I think it is to protect the top surface of the cover from the under-side slats when rolled up. Vibration from driving around with the cover rolled up might cause the slats to rub against the top cover causing blemishes. The felt (and rubber on the later models) act as soft spacers to reduce the rubbing.

Oh but it is a safety issue! I have to resort to wearing my tactical gloves to open and roll the tonneau cover because it gets extremely hot!

Plus, it was a 1000 dollar plus add on! It shouldn't be doing that!

Had mine installed at the dealership about 6 months ago after having my Maverick about 8 months. So far everything is working out great with no issues.

I have this cover as well. My Ford Logo doesn’t line up for some reason, the third or fourth line down is off center to the right so 3/4 is in alignment and the last 1/3 is trying to run away?!? My felt is also peeling off. I’m considering re- gluing it but honestly this is really disappointing for a cover that costs so much money.

Curiouser and curiouser…

After 2 hours of sitting in a sterile waiting area at the dealership, I was informed “we can’t replace the felt and will order a new tonneau cover”. I pointed the Accessories Guy to this MTC thread, indicating there’s a different plastic replacement.

Returned home, thinking I’d get a call in 2-3 days for the replacement. Phone rang from the Dealer 30-minutes after return, quickly got weird: Accessories Guy found the plastic option, which has no Ford logo, which I specifically said was important (more on that further down). Furthermore, I was informed that Replacing with the OEM, with felt and logo, would not be warranted if the felt failed.

WTF?

I’m replacing with the OEM and with felt and am crafting a couple of letters (paper, printed, envelopes and stamped!) to targeted Brass in Dearborn… with an explanation that in 2021and 2022 I constantly defended keeping the hard roll up in the order, not succumbing to the myth that removing the Ford tonneau MIGHT get the Maverick built.

Ford hard rollup with the Ford Blue Oval…with a warranty. That’s the goal [said the stubborn guy]

On to the day. Stay tuned.

Give them hell. I outlined my experiences in another thread. I sent my feedback to BakFlip and haven’t received a response so I’ll try Ford next.

They gave me a new Tonneau cover last week after the felt came off. No Ford logo, but it has plastic instead of the felt. It is pouring rain out now, and I have not looked to see if the cover is leaking. My last cover did leak. I think I will just wait until the rain stops to see if I’m pleasantly surprised. 😎

You guys have a product number for the replacement tonneau cover? I need to convince my dealership to replace mine.

Under direct sun, the glue would melt and become liquidy. Worst part is, if you accidentally get the adhesive on your hands while it's hot!
