It will be just as secure, a serrated pocket knife will go through the hard ones just as easily trust me (most are just foam inside of thin plastic veneer, some have thin aluminum) ;) Trust me neither will stop a thief. Also soft improves MPG a bit compared to a hard since it flexes a bit and is much lighter weight. I've always been able to put things on top of it as well, like a beer, no problem. As long as I dont throw it on it , it will balance.
Ok...so long as it will hold a beer it might be fine. 👌🍺😁

Just because you can get into something doesn't mean it's easy. I've seen the soft covers get Sliced through like wrapping paper. It's going to take a little longer to cut through plastic even with a power tool.
Od course you can always defeat the lock and open the cover normally if you want to as well.

You're talking garbage. Have you ever actually touched one in person? A hard rollup tonneau cover or a roll n lock will be significantly more secure than a soft rollup tonneau cover, especially some no name poverty brand from Amazon. It obviously has to be sturdy if it can support a couple hundred pounds of weight where as a soft rollup can't. Nothing is going to stop a determined thief, but most of these things are crimes of opportunity, and you probably aren't going to slice through one of these with a knife. I've sold quite a few of these, and they are solid.

On top of that I'd hate to hear the road noise as that cheap tonneau flaps in the wind. Some people will spend more for quality. A Ford Focus isn't the same as a ferrari just because they both have 4 wheels.

First off where are these 1600$ maverick’s? Second I was looking at these because I’m an electrician and in in and out of the bed constantly when I’m doing side work and don’t need 5k worth of stuff to disappear from my bed. Being able to open the cover without opening the tailgate is a major plus. People have different needs
You might like this one. If money were no object I would buy it for a Toyota Tundra and skip the Mav.

In this photo you can see the drain hole that is being used by the other roller cover, I think this is a good illustration of how much larger the retrax box is.

So the drain hose is supposed to go in those holes? How do you Pop out the cover?

I think you misunderstood my post, but I'll try to answer your question.
The cover you are seeing (grommet) you would either just pull out or drill a hole through it depending on how large the tubing is that you need to fit through it.
For my cover I was unable to use those drain ports and had to drill 1/2 inch holes in my bed to put my drain tubes in because as you can see in my picture the holes available in the bed were too high for me to use.
I hope that clears things up a little, but if not I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Just going by pictures alone I think the retrax looks much larger.

Doesn't look the the Retrax allows access to the drain holes. But they do have a T-slot rail option. Hopefully Roll n Lock will offer that soon for the Maverick.

Somebody got a bag full of money! I'll be getting a bed cover that don't cost the same as the truck.
Yea had one on my Wife's 2005 Sport Trac and we paid like $900 but times and prices change, $1500.00 for their cheapest one now, they are nice but on such a small truck as the Maverick the roll up can at the front of the bed takes up a bit of space

Anybody have any experience with the Soft folding types? The cheapos? I don't carry expensive stuff and don't like the idea of losing any more bed size or having it block my window if I have it folded.
My Lariat FE came with folding soft cover. It works great and looks good too. I do like the Roll N Lock but they take up a lot of room at the front of the bed.
