Maybe CVTs are unreliable but the eCVT is not. I also don't agree with your assessment about them being noisy or jerky or sluggish, I recently had an extended day test drive with a Hybrid maverick and the overall powertrain to include the eCVT was excellent. I would actually prefer it to the automatic in the ecboost I drove for a day the next weekend. Do you understand the difference between the eCVT and an old band CVT?
Yes I understand. Just stating my experience

That doesn't describe my experience, or the experience of anyone I've known, who's driven the eCVT planetary gear system, Maverick or otherwise. I understand the Nissan style band is a garbage fire, but the Toyota/Ford system is great. Everyone I've let drive my Maverick has remarked on how amazingly smooth and peppy everything is.
I’m talking Subaru cvt in my experience. I get the ecvt is different and I’m glad it is

Exactly, they have a Subaru which does have an absolute garbage CVT in it. Not an eCVT with a planetary gear system.

LOL so you are exactly demonstrating my point. No matter how good the eCVT is, people will not accept it because of horrible experiences with a regular junk CVT which is kinda silly considering just how good the eCVT is. They should have never called it an eCVT, they should have came up with some other name entirely to distance from people who have had a bad experience with a CVT.

Well I’m glad I made your point. Lmao. You’re correct, I won’t accept an ecvt no matter how good it is

The ECVT is a completely different animal and is necessary for the hybrid system to work as simple as possible. There are very few moving parts which equals less troubles. I’m not a fan of most CVT transmissions and a true set gear ratio transmission just has a better overall sound and feel to me. Although just how simple it is I like. The 8 speed has 3 planetary gear sets. At least at least 4 or more clutch packs. A torque converter with another clutch pack. Most likely 10 solenoids or more etc etc etc. Modern trans are reliable but just a lot going on so when they fail it’s complicated. The ECVT has 1 planet set, and 2 electric motors/ generators. There are no solenoids, no clutches, no torque converter, no valve body and very few bearings. The only problem they have shown was an out put shaft bearing failure which has been remedied many many years ago.

They should have just called it a PGT (Planetary Gear Transmission) and marketed it with a badass emblem of Atlas holding a gear shaped planet on his back

The lurker Ford Motor Company account is going to take this idea back to corporate for sure.

Had to have the cvt replaced in my Subaru at 90k miles so I don’t feel too confident in them
Subaru uses a steal belt driven CVT. They call it Subarus Lineartronic. I am not impressed with this style of CVT either. However, just like there are many different regular transmissions there are numerous CVTs as well. The electronic CVT (eCVT) of the Ford Maverick mirrors the Prius and other Toyota Hybrids.

Anyone have any input on why eCVT with discrete gear ratios would be beneficial over the current eCvt?

If you know why is your confidence in eCVTs low? Seems like a unjustified generalization. IE- my car burns oil so I don’t feel confident in engines.
