Rear light cluster misalignment??

Hi everyone!

I have had my Maverick for the last 4 months and still loving it!

I noticed it a couple months ago that the rear left light unit is not flush with the body work. In fact, I can put a finger in the gap and see through to the floor. I tried to reseat it with the screws but I cannot seem to have it sit flush. Has anyone experienced similar and do you have a DIY home remedy for it?

Here are the pics - the right rear is normal (flush), but the left rear has a noticeable gap:

The trucklett is going in for service in two weeks' time so I will ask them to have a look, but I prefer fixing it myself.

that rear left looks like its popping out of its grommets.
If you lower the tailgate there are two screws that hold the light in place. Loosen them, then try to set the light back into place...then tighten them.

If that does not work you can remove the light completely and mess with the height of the posts on the taillight (those engage with the clip holes in the body) until you are happy with position and everything engages.

Some say grommets need replacement but I believe even then with poor alignment you are just jamming stuff into place.

This is a common occurence mine does that and I haven't done anything about it yet. I'll probably have the dealer fix it when I go in for my first oil change. It is of course covered under warranty and no doubt easy to fix.

Dealer will replace grommets, jam it back into place and send you on your way. Issue is that if things are out of alignment and for example you are bottoming out on the outer panel, and engaging (but barely) grommets..you might run into it popping off again later or scuff up your paint since perimeter of light assy clashes with the panel.

Anyways, worked for me but obviously actual results may vary. I want to avoid dealer at all cost.

makes me think the sheet metal flange where the 2 bolt attach is out of alignment/plumb.

Did you double check that it's flush inside and put a little elbow grease into putting it back in? Mine needed some force after I noticed this too. Sorry if you take offense to me asking, the last person who posted this stuff and I asked for pics of the housings to confirm them as the issue took it very personal because "They knew how to install a tail light"...

Lots of people reporting this issue, and lots of people simply saying "it's not put in all the way" and that's how they fixed it. Hopefully that is your case. Fortunately for me, after removing the tail lights multiple times all I had to do was give it a little umph and wiggle. Been fine ever since.
