I am getting this message when attempting to back up sometimes, is there some problem or procedure I can do to fix this or is this a sign of something more meaningful?

Does it happen often? I recall a thread previously where someone mentioned it seems like a glitch in the infotainment center. You could always try a hard reset:



If that doesn't help, I would probably just take it in if it's under warranty and a persistent issue. Could be wiring related, could be something simple or just needs an update. Have you updated the firmware at all since you've had it?

I had the same message. Dealer fixed under warranty. There was a bent pin in the wiring harness connector in the tail gait. No problem since then.

Had it happen a couple of times but really can't duplicate it. Happens once then OK for months. May have to reset the Info system next time.

I want to blame a bad connection in the tailgate. Something like letting the tailgate slam down and an already loose connector rattled out more. Don't know how you'd fix it but ifnits under warranty id bet they would know how to get in there if you dont want to.

If the camera itself was dead it wouldn't randomly come back to life itd just stay dead. It could be the cameras connector damaged but the intermittent failure really points to a connection issue to me.

Ford is notorious for having water intrusion into their rear cameras causing failure. I never had it happen to my escape but a lot of others did and I know it's very common on the Edge and Explorer too

I feel kind of guilty that my truck has been so perfect. I get cranky if dirt is on the backup camera lens, and sometimes the camera stays on for a few seconds after I turn the knob from "R" to "D". I love this truck.

Not sure, to be honest Ford uses the absolute cheapest suppliers for a lot of their parts so some parts unfortunately are just not made well. I replaced the blend door actuator on my sister in law's explorer multiple times. Her back up camera also failed due to water intrusion but she was getting ready to trade it in anyway. At least on the Maverick the back up camera is very easily accessible in the tailgate. To be honest I haven't seen a back up cam failure on a Maverick but I just know it's a part that has a high failure rate on other Fords. Maybe at the very least pull the plug off and throw some dielectric grease in it.

It only happens sometimes and I installed a shock to lower the tailgate much slower than dropping and seems to not happen anymore

I received this message yesterday and today. Going to the dealership Tuesday for an oil change and will see if it is something they are aware of.
