I've seen a bunch of talk on here since I got my Mav nearly 2 years ago... about the rattling that most of us hear. In many experiences (including mine up till now) the dealer never hears it... or can't replicate it, etc. Any excuse to not fix it.
Well... every time I bring mine in for service I mention the rattle and they of course "can't hear it." Until this last time.
A new associate working at my dealership took in my concerns and actually wrote it down on the work order (a first). The tech ultimately heard what I was hearing and went through it for the better part of a day trying to isolate. Then they called to tell me they "think" they may have found it can I keep it there for one more day (which I did). Here's what they told me:
The passenger door panel was the culprit. It wasn't until they took it off that they noticed it was "mis-cut" at the factory. Apparently inside the door you could see the panel came about a quarter inch short of where it should be. So they ordered me a new one and installed it yesterday.
So far... not a peep inside the cab. Silence is beautiful.
Just wanted to put this out there for others having the same trouble. Maybe tell your dealership about this door sitch? Or maybe the message here is keep harping on your service department until the last day of your bumber to bumper warranty if need be. Maybe you'll get lucky like I did.
Oh, and side note: I was informed that when they replaced the door panel they had to remove the little black cap section that covers the side mirror "guts" inside the cab. It is basically a disposable part. Take it off and it won't go back on tightly. So... they ordered me a new one that should be in next week.
My one complaint (nitpicking). If you know these parts are basically "single use," they should have ordered it when they ordered the door panel. That's all.
