Turkey Vulture
Can't eat it?Turkey Vulture
These birds are nature’s ultimate, built-in clean-up crew!
While they sometimes get a bad reputation or look a little spooky hanging around on roofs, turkey vultures are actually fascinating (and incredibly helpful) creatures:
1. They Have Super-Strength Stomach Acid
Turkey vultures eat carrion (animals that have already died). Their stomach acid is so incredibly strong and corrosive that it completely destroys lethal bacteria and toxins—including anthrax, botulism, cholera, and salmonella. By eating these carcasses, they actually sanitize the environment and prevent deadly diseases from spreading to other animals or humans.

The short answer is absolutely not—unless you are in an extreme, life-or-death survival situation, and even then, it is highly discouraged.
In fact, there is a famous old survivalist rule of thumb: "You can eat almost anything with fur or feathers in the wild—except a vulture."
