Back in September I placed an order for the Maverick XL Hybrid. I got a letter from Ford saying it was received and they will email me every 45 days to keep me informed.

Not long after placing the order I realized that I didn't specify the full size spare tire. I contacted the young man who was the sells man to take my order. He said that we could not make any changes to the order and if we did, it would risk the guaranteed price I was given(?).

As a rule I don't buy new vehicles (last time was 1991). And here in the forum I see announcements about package discounts, items being delayed, etc. How can we navigate and take advantage of these evolving offers if we are locking into what we have ordered?

Thanks everyone and I appreciate your thoughts and insight on this. ...

You can make any change you want until you receive a VIN. If you got the acceptance email and the 45 day letter then you'll also be getting the "scheduled for production" email. Once you get that email, which includes your VIN, you're locked and can't make any changes.

I intended to add CP360 and put it off a few days, then suddenly got the "scheduled for production" email and couldn't. Don't wait. :)

Thank you very much, I appreciate the info. Not sure why the sales person told me that, guessings he might be a little green.
