Question for Bakflip MX4 owners

When the cover is all the way up and secured against the cab, how much bed space, in inches, does it still take up? I'm considering upgrading to the MX4 at some point, but want to make sure our bikes would fit in the bed using a tailgate pad when the cover is all the way up.

By all the why up, do you mean having the gasket right against the back window, or just in the up position? If you do that the cover won't reach the tailgate. I'll have to go out and measure mine for you.

Thanks, I mean after everything is installed, when you open the cover all the way so the cover is vertical/against the cab, how much horizontal space does the cover still take up in the bed when measured from the cab/rear window?

Measured 7 1/2 inches from the back of the bed to the edge of the closest fold point on the cover. I quickly found I do not like driving with the cover up, you feel really blind. I just take the cover off and put it in the garage when putting a bike in, fits not trouble when secured with ratchet straps.

Cool, thanks! I was just marking up a photo so show what I was asking about. Is the cover (not the rails) pretty quick/easy to get on and off?

I measured from the back of the bed below the window, since it comes out from the window, it's not all usable space.

Yeah, it's fast to take off, you just loosen the two bolts on the underside that secure it to the rails. Just keep the hardware in the correct order when you take it off. Depending on how strong you are, you might need a hand putting it back on after. No need to remove the rails.

Over all I like the MX4. I like how it keeps my gear in the bed safe, and for the most part dry. I get some water in, since I have the factory DIBL, as a result the drip tubes aren't connected. I'd have to take the drop in liner partly out and cut it to get to the drain holes. So far haven't had the gumption to do it. Water just runs down the side of the bed liner into groves in the lower part of the liner and out the tailgate as a result. My truck is parked on an incline, so it doesn't build up inside overnight.

One thing of note, the aluminum parts of the cover get very, and I mean very, hot on warm summer days. I wear gloves when handling it if its been out in the sun all day.

The one thing I don't like is those prop-rods for when you have the cover against the cab. I do use it that way sometimes for work, just because I don't want to have it off all the time. Anyway, when the rods are down in the resting position they don't rattle or anything, but when you fill up the bed the clips that hold them up tend to pop off the rails. I've been lucky thus far and not had the plastic clips come off the rods. If they do, I could see myself losing them in the stuff I take to the green waste recycling depot. I don't see that being a scenario that everyone would run into, but just thought I'd give a heads up on that.

Is it worth the price? I think only time will tell. If it holds up as long as I have the truck I'll be happy, if not I'll be disappointed.
