Right! If we could program L to work as M we’d be in business. And, thank you for sharing your knowledge on all this, it’s been a great help. The reason I signed up here is for this thread lol. I appreciate it.
I try my best i dont know it all lol

Have you had any more time to check and see if this would work to get a true manual mode?

I‘ve got the wheel installed and paddle shifters working but it’s almost not worth it because the factory computer takes back control too soon. I have made all the mentioned changes in forscan. It Is nice to be able to downshift before hard acceleration or out of curves but almost useless in other situations such as say going up a long gentle incline, you downshift to the proper gear hold the accelerator where you need it but in about ten seconds the computer takes back over and upshifts to a higher gear and it’s back to lugging. At that point you can downshift again, or change it to sport. This wouldn’t be such an issue if in normal drive mode the computer didn’t shift to ridiculously high gears and force you to lug the engine while cruising. This makes me drive the truck in sport more often than not to avoid unnecessary lugging and prevent engine knock. The other thing I’ve found is that if you’re in sport and want to upshift to d7 it won’t allow it until you’re over about 63mph. The indicator will flash but doesn’t allow the shift. In this case I’m trying to upshift to get the revs down for economy say cruising at 55 but it wont allow the shift until you increase speed past a certain limit. You can switch it to normal and it’ll shift to d8 by 55mph and lug like crazy. There’s no in between and that’s why I’d like to figure out how to enable a true manual mode.
Well said, that’s the same I’m experiencing. Still not giving up though.
I have faith in Antonioooooooo!!!!!
Keep it up brother.

Haha! Nobody does, but you know more than most. Again very good of you to share it.

i read through the other thread, I wonder if boostedgraygoose made any progress? I’m sure lots of Maverick owners would like a true M mode and would be willing to throw $ to see it to fruition.

You left out a word in that sentence: “willing to throw more $ to see it to fruition” 😁

i read through most of the instrument cluster thread, it looked like the op was swapping in an escape cluster and had the 2020 escape steering wheel with paddle shifters but sold the vehicle before finishing. If he got them working I’d guess he would still have the problems we have with no true M mode. i know some guys have the explorer cluster installed now and working too.

so we know we could potentially use an escape cluster or others that have M mode, and there’s a rotary shifter with a M button instead of L that should plug in right?

does anyone know or have the means to research in ford service docs how the L shifters are different than the M shifter? Is it just wiring and programming? are there physical differences in the maverick ECU/PCM/8f35 and the 2020 escape with paddle shifters and manual mode? I think we’re right at the threshold if someone hasn’t already figured it out lol

I think its more about the Gsm tryng to change the gear selector module. And pcm maybe messing with the ass built data.

The explorer comes with the M on gear selector
right, the 2020 escape titanium have that too and they are the same 2.0 EB 8f35 that we have. Some of the bronco sports have M but no paddle shifters just up/down on the shifter I think.

could we put in a gsm and M rotary shifter from a 2020 escape platinum? I’m not sure that’s possible or what it would take, you know way more than me lol. if we could it’s still going to mess with the pcm until the as built is sorted out?

edit to add: do the gsm‘s have to be programmed to the vin like say a rcm?

I’m going to buy a BS badlands gsm with the M and plug it in see what it does lol. If you get a chance to look at the ecu/pcm connections from the gsm if they are different on the maverick than the BS badlands that’d be awesome.
