Overlanding Maverick Build w/ Full Featured Slide-In Camper, 2" Lift Kit!

I would love to see this on a hybrid. I know the hybrid wasn't made for overlanding, but to just take camping on the trails, it would be a great camper replacement.

Awesome overland Maverick build!! Some details:

The entire camper setup without the gear weighs 700 pound. Still gets 22 MPG on highway (with EcoBoost engine) on 2" lift kit and BF Goodrich tires..

The camper features a fridge, a sink, a portable toilet, and an eight-foot-long bed. The camper also has 400 watts of solar, a 100-amp-hour lithium battery bank, a 14-gallon stainless steel water tank, and a 3-gallon stainless steel water heater.

This is definitely inspiring! Saw this on YouTube before it hit the forum and was ecstatic! Congrats on this build. So many questions, but I’ll only throw out three: 1) What do you do for cooling? 2) And what did you do for Insulation? I’m from the Southwest…3) When building this, did you come across why Ford doesn’t recommend a slide in camper for the truck?

Hi, thanks for the kind words! We open all of the windows, they all have screens. We don’t go camping to sit inside in the ac during the day and it’s typically cool at night, air flow is your friend and the camper has plenty. As for insulation the walls/lid have either a honeycomb panel in them or a foam board panel. The fabric isn’t insulated. The diesel furnace can keep the camper at 70 degrees no problem even down below freezing. We only sleep with a small blanket and normal sheets. The only real reason for any insulation on the hard surfaces is preventing condensation.

No reason that I found for not putting a slide in on the Maverick. I can only assume they were thinking traditional, heavy, bulky slide in campers. I don’t know that many people would go to the lengths that I did to keep the weight down and use highly quality components. My camper weighs less than half of the max cargo capacity of the Maverick bed.

I'm guessing this is a prototype since GFC ( https://gofastcampers.com/ ) doesn't have them (or any mention of them) on their website yet.

It is not a prototype from GFC. I made what I wanted for myself. That’s all it is. A custom one off. I simply used a GFC tent as the top.

Unfortunately no. Anyone capable of building something like this, is also capable of designing it. I encourage people to do or learn to do both!

I suppose. It won’t be as low of profile. The gfc tent is the thinest one on the market. All of the others. Are like 10-14”+ thick.
