So my long wait is over. I ordered my Maverick Sept 16, 2021. Received it Oct 5, 2022.

FROM THE FACTORY
XL Hybrid / Carbonized Grey
Trailer Hitch, Full size Spare, Hard roll up tonneau cover & 400 Watt power cabin power inverter. It was supposed to have a drop in bed liner but somehow that didn’t get done

I HAVE SINCE ADDED
Custom wheels, Ford Modular Drop in Bed Liner, Ford Floor Mats and Tail Gate lettering.

IN THE FUTURE WILL ADD
Cruise control
Heated seats
Keypad entry

Short review – I LOVE the truck. It’s comfortable, rides like a car. Gas mileage is even better than advertised. So far the dash computer says over 44 MPG on 224 miles total driven. If it’s accurate I’ll do 600+ miles first tank. This is mixed driving.

I wasn’t sure that I’d like a CVT (or eCVT) transmission based on things I read. But it seems entirely “normal” to me –a seamless feel of acceleration. You press the gas peddle, you go. The engine doesn’t rev up and then drop down when the transmission shifts. You just move forward at a pace related to how far down you press the gas peddle. Regenerative breaking was easy to get used to as well.

Insurance was cheap! 25% less than my 2018 Ford Escape AWD. I need to ask my agent why.

Bluetooth synced up with phone fast and easy. Need to cable it and see what Android auto is like

Experience at the dealership was 3.5 stars out of five. I ordered when the pandemic was still very much a thing. So all done online/emails/texts. If I was doing over I would absolutely walk in and do the order in person and walk out with a signed build order and purchase agreement. My first time in the dealership was to pick it up.

The negative on the deal is the sales person and sales manager went full stupid when it came to Ford Price Protection. I asked for and received an email reply early in the deal that I would not be charged more than MSRP. And that’s what I paid. But of course the new MSRP was $1K more than the ordered MSRP. And the dealership will get that as a credit in another couple of weeks. The idea – which is rarely working out – is that the dealers will honor the original build MSRP price, and get credited the difference in their monthly statement. What is happening is what happened with me. They never heard of such. They are only charging MSRP as agreed. I blame Ford even more than the dealers. Ford could do a rebate check. Ford could print out old MSRP’s. Do it as credit to the dealer guess who keeps the money?

So 3.5 stars. The process was easy. Sales person nice. They “only” charged MSRP. But being better than a lot of dealerships is a rather low bar, so only a bit better than average.

Speaking of nice sales staff, the saleswoman all but bent my arm to sign me up for the Ford Pass app. Installed and synced it for me. I’ve since deleted it (from both car and phone). I’m not having Ford collect data on where I’ve been, where I’m at, where I’m going and how fast I’m driving for a few points on purchases and remote start on my cell phone. Others may legitimately feel different about this. But what’s Ford doing with all this data?

If you order Ford accessories on the Ford accessory website, it’s a money saving idea to pay for installation on the Ford website. The accessories I had installed today included drop in bed liner, floor mats and the tailgate lettering. The service manager was adding up the hours when I told him I’d already paid for labor. I showed him the confirmation email from Ford and we were done. But looking over and upside down at his writing it appears he was going with 2.5 hours shop labor. I only paid $132 for installation. I kinda doubt that the dealership’s shop rate is $50 an hour. Someone mumbled something about Ford giving only them 1.1 hours. So unless you are planning to install accessories yourself, add installation to your online order.

Did I say I love the truck? I do. I love the XL model especially. While I want cruise and heated seats, I dislike the orange accents in the XLT. Halloween all year long. I don’t actually need for the door handles and dash vents to be highlighted in orange to figure out where they are and what they are for. The dealer that did the install had a four Maverick XLT EcoBoosts on the lot and I’m glad I stayed with XL. It turns out cruise is cheap and relatively easy and a couple of trim shops here in town will do heated seats.

No problems. The regenerative braking makes it feel like you stop faster than normal relative to the amount of peddle pressure. But I adjusted and break with less pressure right up to the point I want to come to a complete stop.

Well - I hope so. I've seen at least one post where the brake problems (sudden stop with a thud) didn't show up until the truck had a couple of thousand miles on it. I'll be attentive to such and take it in if it starts doing such.

Right on. Hope the long wait for my23 gives Ford time to fix this issue, as my bad knees will cause this to be a real problem for me.
